You can heat them in the microwave and use them for pain relief, or comfort. A good friend gave my son one because he is such a truly awful sleeper and has tummy issues. I haven't used it at night because it makes me a bit nervous to do so BUT we have used it in the car on chilly mornings. I heat it up and let him hold it. He really seems to love it. I was thinking about getting a couple for DDs so that they can use them when cold or just when sick (tummy ache). But on the other hand, I use a rice-filled sock on my neck or stomach and it works great so I probably should still save my money by using socks we already have. If I found them for $10 though that is a pretty great price....
