I would love to find a cute sneaker for going to sporting events, the park, running errands etc. Looking for something that is slimmer/less clunky than a typical running sneaker, but still has decent support. I would love to be able to wear them with some of my straighter leg jeans too. I think the chuck taylors looks cute on lots of people but they look funny on my foot and just don't feel comfortable so looking for other options. Any recommendations?

Have you checked out Converse Jack Purcell's? I recommend them a lot. They have more support than Chucks, and have a cool retro look.

Also, if you go to the Converse website, you can design your own shoes, picking out colors and patterns.

They are really cute but I am worried they would still look funny on my foot like the Chuck Taylors (or other knockoff do). I am short with small feet, but when I put these on, i feel like my feet look really long and out of proportion! Maybe I should try them....I love how they look in stores or on other people!

I used to wear my retro looking Puma's, but they died recently so I've been looking for alternatives.

I haven't seen these in person yet, but I want to try the Saucony Bullet sneaker: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00307RY5E/ref=ox_sc_act_title_3?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER

I am also looking for something more like a sneaker in terms of padding, but looks smaller.

I recently got a pair of Ugg Laela from the Rack. They are super comfortable and easy to get off and on when running out the door. The soles are very comfy and the inside has the wool to keep you warm without socks. In my opinion they don't appear as long and skinny as the converse ones did on me. Highly recommend the Laela or Evera by Ugg!

I think Chucks make feet look longer because the toe cap is so long. The ones on the Jacks are shorter. If you can want to give them a try, You can always try them from Nordstrom or Zappos, free shipping and returns! :)

I love Chuck Taylors but I've been wearing them since I was in high school (as in >25 years) so I'm used to them. You may just have to get used to them. They do have a skinny look but since you have small feet, I'm sure they look just fine. I love the look of the Jack Purcells but they don't fit me right.

The other sneakers I wear all the time are Adidias Sambas and Gazelles. Between boy sizes and the new women's styles, there are a lot of fun option and they are so comfortable.

I heard Merrell is revamping the Encore line for spring. I'm totally excited about them and plan on getting a pair of something casual and comfy when they show up.

I've been wearing the Ugg Evera for the past year and a half and LOVE them. More support than Converse.

These are men's but I'm a 9/10 in women's and wear an 8/9 in men's. I buy the men's as it is hard to find women's unless you get to a Diesel store. I get them on sale and LOVE the way they wear and feel! Super soft shoes...and hardly anyone has them ;). I like to be unique. Also with my arthritis, these never hurt my toes.

I live them so much I named my dog Diesel 🐶.

I am obsessed with my Everas but I don't wear them in the summer. I don't choose sneakers in the late fall and winter because I don't find them very warm, which is how I landed on the Everas. I am awaiting an answer as well.

OP, love my Ugg Everas! I have worn Chuck T's and Jack Purcell's on and off for 20 years, but they are simply not supportive. JP's are better than Chuck T's for me.

I usually wear flip flops all summer. Occasionally I will wear them during the summer and I don't recall them being overly hot. They are only lined on the upper half of the sides around the heel and the tongue not the entire sneaker. HTH.

I wear Chucks and have large feet (9/10) on a relatively short (5'4" ) frame. Maybe they look goofy, but I've been wearing them since high school and you'd think if they looked silly, somebody would've made fun of me. ;)

Having said that, I hate Chucks in the warm months. I like being able to kick off my shoes, and I really hate socks when it's hot. So for spring and summer, I'm all about Toms. Yeah, everyone wears them, but there's a reason for it and I don't think it's because of how they look (many of my friends say they look like hooves!). They're just so comfortable and plain enough that they go with almost anything.

Late to the party, but I just got my Cole Haan Air Brias last week to "break in" before a big trip, and I am seriously in love. I just walked in a parade (small and short) as well as most of the day at a big amusement part in these sneakers, and they were wonderful. They are sleek, as far as sneakers go, lightweight, and incredibly soft. Seriously, they are like butter. I really recommend them. (I have the ones in Salt.)

My sister has these sneakers and they look super cute on her! She wears them with her orthotics, but says they are still comfortable without. I want to find a pair in my size, but I'm trying to find them on sale somewhere.

I have Saucony Bullets in two colors and really like them. Saucony Jazz or the Jazz Low Pro are a little bulkier but more supportive. The Bullets are plenty comfy for running errands, but my feet were a little tired after a day of WDW in them.

My Saucony Bullets came in from Amazon today. I ended up getting a Mens size 7. A women's 8 is supposed to equal men's 6.5. But the reviews on the mens said they run small so I took a chance. They were $12 cheaper than the womens...and I figured if they were wider that would work out better for my wide feet.

They are really cute! And pretty comfy too.

I get lots of compliments on my Nike Freerunner 3's. Maybe it is sportier than you are looking for but I like the look and find the shoe (very form fitted and tight) to be flattering with my skinny jeans. While my whole family wears converse shoes, I don't like the look on me.

Here's a link but in a different color. Mine are hot pink:

Thanks so much for all the input! Lots of great choices.

I really like the Ugg Evera and will keep them in mind for the colder months. I love those New Balances too, but I actually tried that pair a few months ago and couldn't find a size that fit quite right unfortunately. :(

I think I may try the Saucony Bullets...the reviews say they don't have very little arch support. For those of you who have them, is that an issue for you? And what color(s) did you go with?

I only wore mine for a few minutes at home last night. They have light arch support. I imagine more than chucks?

I got the men's black and silver. They came with 2 sets of laces - white and grey. I think the women's navy ones would go with a lot of things. Or any of the grey ones.

They have some arch support and aren't totally flat like Chucks are. Not as much support as an athletic shoe would need. Definitely a casual, albeit comfy, shoe. If you need serious arch support, I'd probably try the Jazz.

I have gray/pink and navy/white. The shoes come with two colors of laces, the shoe body color and the contrasting color. The Jazz and Jazz Low Pro come in really cute colors too. My oldest has a purple and turquoise pair that a couple of my friends have gotten after seeing them on her.

I do not own these, and I think they are a new style for spring 2013, but I think I'm going to try them. I have a Nordies gift card from my birthday that I'd like to use to get a pair, I just haven't decided which color I like yet.

Those are the three I like, as well. I don't know what size you wear, but I just realized that on amazon, certain sizes of the raspberry are on sale for $54.95, so I may order those and if I like them, get another color with my Nordies gc. ETA: And shipping is free. :)

I ended up ordering both the Saucony Bullet (in the gray/blue combo) and the Merrell Lorelei Twine (In silver) from Zappos to try.

I really like both and think they would work for what I'm looking for! I think I prefer the overall feel and look of the Merrell on my foot, but they have a little puckering around the heel that I don't love. Anyone have these? Does that part break in or loosen as you wear them? It isn't pinching or painful, but I do notice it as I walk. Not sure if I should just go with the Sauconys bc of the heel....
