The geek in me loves Pi Day! Are you making pie today, and if so what kind?

I'm making lemon meringue.

Nope. I bought a tiny chocolate cream pie for DH and the kids to share while I'm at work. I thought about it, but I had no ingredients in the house to make one (well, I could make a crust, but nothing to fill it) and no time anyway.

But I *love* pi day!

Sarah :)

I was thinking quiche too. But, I'll see if I have the ingredients for a sweet one. Eta- no quiche but a pecan pie.

Yep. I made them yesterday. We are having pork pie (tortierre or meat pie) for dinner and I also made a sweet potato pie. My youngest was in seventh heaven because I let her have a slice of the the sweet potato pie for breakfast (it really is rather well balanced when you look at the ingredients).

Here is the Pork Pie-

The kids both took pie in their lunch boxes and I just ate a slice of peach pie! A friend brought them over last night.

Wow, these all sound so good! It never occurred to me to make a savory pie. Quiche sounds delicious!

I'm also intrigued by sweet potato pie, I've never tried it before and both my kids are sweet potato fiends. Is it similar to pumpkin pie? Ellie's mom, would you be willing to share the recipe??

First time hearing about pi day :) Actually, I am in the process of making some lime pies, but they're for a baby shower tomorrow.

Didn't realize it was Pi Day until reading the thread! Thankfully, I had pie crusts in the freezer and some cherry pie filling in the pantry. Not exactly the best homemade pie (canned filling) but it's better than nothing, DD will love it & DH will get a kick out of having pie on pi day! ;) Thanks OP!

Absolutely. It is similar to pumpkin pie.
Maple Bourbon Sweet Potato Pie (http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/gale-gand/maple-bourbon-sweet-potato-pie-recipe/index.html).

I only use half the amount of bourbon but you don't even have to use that much. I also skip blind cooking the crust. I just put the pie crust into the pan, sprinkle brown sugar over the bottom (not part of the recipe) and pour in the filling. It fills a 9" pan. I think roasting the sweet potatoes makes all the difference. For starters, it is easier and second of all, the roasting brings out a really nice flavor.

YES! I helped serve 25 pies sent in by parents to the teachers at DD's school. Oh my goodness it was hard to see them all go away without me taking a bite. I may have to make a list of all of them later. So many different ones.

I made this Greek Yogurt Key Lime http://allrecipes.com/video/470/dannon-oikos-key-lime-pie/detail.aspx?prop24=RR_RelatedVideo One for the teachers, and one for us!

I made a spicy veggie paneer pie with frozen parathas as the pie crust over the weekend. Smelt yummy when I baked it. The kids won't touch it and DH is travelling so I get to eat it all.

cherry pie is baking.
it got priority over the chicken i was going to make (esp after my mother took me that was going to take an hour!!!).... so popcorn and pie for dinner it is :)

(dd and dh are having other things besides popcorn and pie, but that's what *I* am having)

Thank you!! This sounds delicious, I can't wait to try making one. My kids will be thrilled!

DS had pie at his after school math club. Happy 5th grade math-geek-fest! They even had pi tshirts.

Here at home, no chance of pie. Nobody has pie at St. Patty's parties. I do have six Guinness Chocolate Stout Cakes on my counter...

I made 2. Broccoli cheese chicken and traditional pot pies. I was a h.s. math teacher and the math team coach, so it's like a major holiday here!

No but I ate pie. The boss brought in a gluten free apple crumb and it was delish.
