My girls share a room by choice and right now we have just two beds thrown in there. They have been together for almost a year and have no desire to move.

They are begging for a bunk bed.

We're thinking of one like this:

Because it has some storage and a desk. And the one we saw in a local store even has a little nightstand for the person on the bottom bunk but what about the top?

Where does she put her clock and books and water bottle and a light?

Do you guys have kids in a bunk? What do they do?

Thx

Amazon has a "bunk bed shelf" and the you could do a clip on light. Or one of those floating shelves from ikea.

We have a torchiere type lamp that provides enough light. It sits right next to the head of the bed. The bunk bed we bought was a Smart Stuff bunk bed that has a small tray that DD1 uses for her water bottle and small items. She places books and her stuffed animals right on the bed itself.

I have asked this question IRL and wondered why more people don't ask it. It seems like a missed marketing opportunity; to my knowledge, even IKEA doesn't sell anything even with all their bunk and loft beds.

DD1 uses a screw-on shelf that I bought at Bed Bath and Beyond many years ago around Back to School time with the dorm stuff. It is not perfect (only came in black, so I spraypainted it white, edge "guard" around it is too low so water bottles and tall stuff easily fall off, it's small, the attachment is easy but bulky), but we've used it for years.

For a light, a few people here have used a very dim wall-mounted light with a cool LED light, like a moon shaped light which I think IKEA sells.

For the shelf, I googled Bunk Buddy and got a number of options:

Top bunk has a clip lamp. A few stuffed animals and the occasional book are the only items up there with him. Book gets put up above his head; tends to pull pillow down from headboard and sleep on the bottom 2/3 of bed.

Alarm clock is on dresser. He climbs out of bed to turn it off in the morning.

I have an Ikea picture frame ledge next to each bunch with a clip on lamp attached. It fit's DS1's books and eyeglass case, but is too narrow for a water bottle (which he doesn't keep by his bed anyways).

Here's a picture:
