Must be good quality as our guest will be staying at least a year. Thanks for the suggestions! :)

Maybe other people will have some good suggestions, but I have never slept on a sofa bed that I would want to be my bed for a year!

We have one from Ashley-it's great a couch, and ok as a sofabed, but nothing to write home about. I would rather sleep on a really comfortable couch than a sofa bed.

We have one like this: http://www.comfort-sleeper.com/BedSizes.htm

Granted, we haven't had anyone sleep on it for a year! I'll email my mom and see if she thinks that would work for a year.

A year? Oh my. I'd get a daybed with a good mattress. West Elm has some more stylish options. Like this one with bolster pillows:

OK .... this one is not your traditional sofa bed.... I personally think it is 100 times more comfortable though. you could easily put a mattress pad on top of it when it is set up as a bed and it would be even more comfy. If you can make the shape work, I highly recommend it. We have had ours for almost 2 years and it is going strong. I've had kids and adults sleep on it and everyone said it was comfy. You have to decide if you want it left or right side chaise cause it can't be switched. Oh and the chaise section lifts up and you can store the blankets/sheets/pillow inside too!

My mom swears that Laz-y-boy is the only way to go for sleeper sofas... (And I sleep really well on hers when I visit.)

Otherwise, what about one of those beds that pulls down from the wall -- a murphy bed? A real mattress but can be put away so it's not always in the way...

Ikea also has a sofa bed that is "different" than most american ones. It's almost like those foam chairs that fold out, except much more structured. I think if you like a harder mattress instead of a supersoft one, it would actually be good, and really inexpensive... It might have been this one:

But i just know that in Germany their sofa beds are totally different than american ones -- none of those wires that you can feel through. And we looked at Ikea once just out of curiosity, and they had a LOT that were options other than the wires that you can feel through the mattress... THat'd probably be the first place I'd look for something inexpensive that would be comfortable. Otherwise I'd probably go right to Laz-i-boy if I was looking for a sofa that I'd have for a while.

I have never slept on it but a friend has a la-z-boy sleeper sofa with an air mattress layer built into it and says that all of her guests go crazy over how comfy it is. Might be worth checking out.

We have one of these...quite comfortable! You can also "upgrade" it with a Temperpedic mattress...

I think you'd be better off with a really good quality air mattress. I too have never slept on a good sofa bed.

My SIL got the American Leather comfort sleeper with the memory foam mattress...very comfortable! I think she got it from Macy's.

I hate air mattresses and definitely wouldn't want to sleep on one for more than a week! My mom has a queen size Aero bed that DBF and I always sleep on whenever we visit her and our backs and shoulders are always killing us afterwards! DBF prefers to just sleep on the couch!

We have this Ikea pull out bed in our playroom and my mom sleeps on it every time she comes to visit us. She says it's very comfortable. I've slept on it before too and it's definitely way more comfortable than a standard sofa bed that has the bars stabbing into your back. It's fully supported with wood slats all the way across and you can pick which mattress you want. We have the second most expensive mattress to go with it, which is made of foam and latex.

I think we had a sofa like this from Ikea years ago. The back of ours was really high, which made it REALLY comfortable to sit on to watch tv 'cause your head was supported, too. Is that right, essnce629?

(I also hate air mattresses.)

We bought a La-z-boy and are very happy with it. But for a year? I'd look into a futon, although queen-sided futons are hard to find (and I don't think I have ever seen a king).

My neighbor has a sleeper sofa from Bo Concept - they look really neat and her long-term guests say they are comfortable.

I just saw a bed today that was a table that converted to a bed (without taking everything off of the desk). AMAZING! Also, the bed was very comfy.

I love some of their stuff!
I wonder if I could justify building one of these beds in to our office downstairs...

We have the ikea manstad and it is pretty comfy!

I tried it first when my sister bought it for her guest house. It was SO much more comfortable than the traditional style, with the springs and bars digging in your back, that we decided to buy one for ourselves when we needed a new couch. So glad we did!

Yes, the back is nice and high. Sounds like the same one!

We have had the Ikea Ektorp for 5 years and my mom finds it very comfortable for 2-week visits.
