vietnamese style/sambal oelek/etc..

I eat a lot of this stuff but the ingredients are crap.

I don't think I will ever make it myself on a regular basis so I'm hoping there is a good alternative.

Do you have a whole foods nearby? Sometimes they have healthier versions. I know trader joes has a version of the sweet chili sauce.

Huy Fong brand I don't think has anything in it. The one with the rooster. They also make sriracha. I get headaches from MSG and buy that brand. Amazon has it from a few sellers:

ETA: found this ingredient list on walmart's site: Chili, Salt, Distilled Vinegar, Potassium Sorbate And Sodium Bisulfate As Preservatives And Xanthan Gum.
Same ingredients on Wegmans:

That's what I have been using for years :) but it does have preservatives so trying to avoid that. Good to know it doesn't have MSG, because I avoid that too.

Sorry. I found an ingredient list and edited before I saw your reply. I bought it at WF and just looked for MSG on the list. I don't eat enough to worry about the other ingredients and went on the "it's at WF so can't be utter crap" (ha!) assumption. ;)

What are the ingredients that you are concerned about? And do you eat so much that it's a factor? A bottle of that stuff will last us years. :)

the preservatives

I eat a LOT of this stuff - I think we go through one every six weeks! If it was infrequent, I wouldn't bother too much.

I stopped buying it a few months ago, looking for a replacement, but I'm having withdrawal symptoms :ROTFLMAO:

The recipes for it online don't look hard. You could make huge batches and freeze in jelly jars.
