I've never really listened to pod casts but want to start as an alternative to music and NPR for my commute (nothing against music and morning edition/all things considered, just trying to mix it up).

Car Talk (I enjoy even really old ones...I like guessing what year they are from :)). I used to listen to Slate ones too. I've gotten out of the podcast habit.

I listen to semi-raunchy, but still intelligent comedy. I also listen to The Moth, which might be more up your alley since you like NPR. You might like some of the Slate podcasts.

I like this American life, some tech ones from the TWiT network (this week in tech), and some genealogy related podcasts. There are also some great language learning ones--coffee break Spanish, etc.

I like Here's the Thing...Alec Baldwin interviewing various guests. Love, love, love it.
Also, Mental Illness Happy Hour.
And This American Life.

In that order.

Love This American Life. They just did one on Harper High School in Chicago; totally riveting. Michelle Obama visited the school following this report.

NPR's Wait, Wait, Don't tell me! I love the wide variety of guests they have. Plus it is 45 minutes, which is perfect for my walk!

Like others, I have Car Talk (so sad they retired!!!), This American Life, and The Moth. Sometimes I do RadioLab, but I prefer TAL.

What is The Moth? I'm intrigued since so many of you like it.

I downloaded This American Life, which I love but usually miss on the weekends. I was enjoying myself so much... until a rock flipped up and hit my windshield and caused a crack. Serenity Now.

I listen to Matty in the Morning it's a local Boston morning show. It's not for the easily offended though and it's very Boston humor. But I love it!

I listen to Savage Love, This American Life and Radio Lab. I'll definitely be checking out the Moth now!

The Moth is a story-telling podcast. Real people share real stories. Some are funny, some are really moving. Sometimes they feature minor celebrities. It's really good.

I also listen to
This American Life
Radiolab
Science Friday
On Point - I like how they focus for a longer time on one current news topic.
Planet Money - A really great economics podcast that actually makes it seem interesting.
Gleeful - A really good podcast if you watch Glee.

The other thing about the Moth is that it's all true stories, told without notes, in front of a live audience. They put the best ones on the podcast. Usually it is stories that are really important to the person and that adds to the urgency of it, and the live audience makes it feel very intimate.

I went to the app store and downloaded the free podcast app. Then from that you can just choose what podcasts you want to download. I plug it in when I'm driving so that it plays through my radio speakers.
