If you were going to DW, Harry Potter Universal and Legoland

How would you go about planning. I know we will be exhausted from DW and I can allow for some downtime. We are thinking about going in August, if that helps.
Why did Disney become much more complicated? I liked it when I was a kid and you just showed up.
