The Biscuit was very interested in the potty at our friends' house and I want to get him one to plant the seeds of PT in his head before he moves up a room at school in August (which is when they will start allowing him to use a potty if he wants to).

He is tall and big (almost 35 inches and over 30 pounds) and growing, so we need something durable and strong. He also is very active, so one that does not tip easily would be welcome. Plus, he's stubborn, so I foresee lots of time sitting on it and want to take comfort into account.

Suggestions?

Baby Bjorne if you are looking for a removable insert.

We have both the Ikea potty and the Bjorn potty mentioned above. I definitely prefer the bjorn (as does DS), and the Bjorn toilet insert. We are in the middle of potty training (today was the first accident-free day!) so all I do is think about going potty right now.

I don't like the ick factor of the Ikea potty not having an insert. For a boy, the Bjorn definitely has the advantage of a higher cup. DS seems more comfortable on it. On the first floor, we have the Ikea potty and a Bjorn insert - he always picks the Bjorn insert. Upstairs, we have the Bjorn potty and an elmo insert - he always picks the Bjorn potty.

We have the Bjorn potty and the Bjorn insert. Really like both of them.

Bjorn insert for elongated toilets; Munchkin brand insert for round ones.

For a free-standing potty, we did fine with the Bjorn high-back potty chair.

Yes, there's an "ICK" factor with any potty-chair, but having both options really helped us save on accidents.

Now, if I could only get DD to let me wipe her butt thoroughly after she poops, my life would be tons easier ...

We had both the Bjorn insert and a froggie stand alone potty, below, and he always chose the froggy potty.

Bonus because it had a removable insert and a high front lip, a must for boys.

I found the Bjorn insert a bear to clean and adjust to the toilet every time, always when going potty is an emergency,

We have the Bjorn potty and the Bjorn insert. Really like both of them.
We liked the bjorn potty when he was first learning to potty train (and it's our car potty as well) and then we transitioned him to the Bjorn insert on the regular bathroom toilette.

Ds is a tall kid and we went straight to the regular toilet with a step stool for him. He rejected potty rings.

For dd, we used the pourty potty: http://www.amazon.com/Pourty-P1B-Easy-to-Pour-Potty-Blue/dp/B0038JX6QA/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1368421034&sr=8-1&keywords=pourty+potty. Cheap, easy to empty, one piece so easy to clean, and very stable. It is quite low to the ground, which was fine with dd.

We have the Bjorn potty topper insert (http://www.amazon.com/BABYBJORN-Toilet-Trainer-White-Black/dp/B0009PAN7Q/ref=sr_sp-atf_title_1_1?s=baby-products&ie=UTF8&qid=1368467640&sr=1-1&keywords=bjorn+potty), which was awesome. DD1 really liked it, DD2 is kind of undecided about it though. We also bought a potty similar to this one from Summer (http://www.amazon.com/Summer-Infant-All-In-One-Potty-Stool/dp/B000G22Y7E/ref=sr_sp-btf_title_1_23?s=baby-products&ie=UTF8&qid=1368467264&sr=1-23&keywords=potty+training) (ours is the Circo brand and was bought from Target sometime in 2008, it is no longer sold in the stores, but it looks like the linked one comes close). We also used it as a port-a-potty for when we travel, and on occaision it has doubled as a step stool. We also bought the Bjorn step stool (http://www.amazon.com/BabyBj%C3%B6rn-061121US-BABYBJORN-Safe-White/dp/B0009OLSY4/ref=sr_sp-atf_title_1_1?s=baby-products&ie=UTF8&qid=1368467572&sr=1-1&keywords=bjorn+step+stool) and I love it. It doesn't skid on the floor, and we've had it since 2008 or early 2009 (I think) and it still looks like new. I am glad I spent the extra money on it vs. the cheaper $5 stools from BRUS or Ikea.

Late vote here for the Bjorn free-standing potty w/removable insert. It was easy to clean and never tipped over.

Didn't realize there was a bjorn insert for the toilet itself. DH bought some tacky Cars-themed insert that was difficult to clean, and DS only started using that when we put the Bjorn out of reach. It wasn't long before DS ignored the Cars insert - it just didn't feel stable on the toilet seat. Didn't look comfortable either. He just uses the toilet with step stool now.

:yeahthat:

We never had a kid potty. Both learned on seats like these and I was glad not to have to wash kid potties! :) We installed seats like these on most of the bathrooms in the house.

We have seats like these and love them, but I didn't find my kids were able to use them alone though until well over 2 (thinking it was closer to 2.5-3?) A one piece, low to the ground potty enables them to get on themselves either backing on to it or coming over from behind; my 17 month old seems to prefer this way. And it's not a hassle at all for me to dump and rinse.

:yeahthat: We installed 2 of them - one in DDs bathroom and one downstairs in the powder room. We had step stools in each bathroom (she needed those anyway to be able to reach the sink for handwashing, etc) so she could easily step up herself and get on. I feel like these seats allowed her to feel like she was going on a regular size potty, so it didn't bother her to use a regular toilet when out and about.

We also had the Bjorn potty that we kept in our truck for emergencies when we were first starting out. I'm glad we had it, but I would have hated to have to clean that out every time she went potty.

:Yeahthat: we love this too but DS felt much more comfortable on the little baby Bjorn potty initially, especially for poop. Our potty training book talked about having their feet raised on a stool or using a little potty to get them in the right position to poop comfortably.
