We have some ancient terrazzo tile in our playroom addition (70s addition to our 50s era ranch-style home). It is indestructible and apparently is coming back in style, but it's not *my* style and I've always hated it. I would like to install some sort of carpet in this room (the rest of the house is hardwood, with tile in laundry and bathrooms), and I am drawn to the natural-fiber look. However, we have two large dogs who have destroyed our jute area rugs, so I am wary of normal seagrass/sisal carpet. Some googling turned up synthetic sisal. Does anyone know anything about it? Is it durable? Any other ideas for a natural-fiber carpet or look-alike that would stand up to pets and kids?

We have this http://www.potterybarn.com/products/solid-stripe-outdoor-rug-neutral/?pkey=csynthetic-outdoor-rugs& and this http://www.potterybarn.com/products/tonal-stripe-outdoor-rug/?pkey=csynthetic-outdoor-rugs& and I really like both of them.

I had planned to get natural sisal but because the rugs are in high-traffic areas I couldn't live with the fact that sisal isn't cleanable. So instead I went with the synthetic and they're great. They hold up extremely well and when dirty, I just take them out front, hose them down and let them dry for an afternoon. Good as new ;)

I also have a few Dash & Albert synthetic rugs and those are great also (but aren't made to look like sisal, instead they are all pattern-y and pretty). Though i would prefer natural rugs for obvious reasons, I'm a huge fan of synthetic for their durability.
