Teacher gift question- initial for first or last name?

I am making a small teacher's gift for the end of the year. I bought fabric key fobs and am going to add an embroidered letter. Should the letter be for the first or last name?

First. Marriage, divorce...too many possibilities for last initial to change.

For key fobs I would do first name initials. I did little caddies for my kids' homeroom teachers and did last name initials because I foresee them using them in their classrooms (or if they don't like them, maybe giving them to their children), and since the kids know them by their last names I figured that would be less confusing.
