I am finally (like a year later), getting the iPhone 5 with Verizon service. I am buying the phone full price from Best Buy and activating it myself because I am not renewing my contract. My question is: do I need Apple Care in additon to Verizon's Asurion insurance for the phone? Asurion is $9.99/month (up from $6.99/month for my Android phone), I do not know what Apple Care is. I would have to purchase it separately as I don't think it is available through Verizon.

I always skip the carrier insurance and get applecare+ It's $99, and covers drops, water, etc. not theft

read this post in a thread about applecare+ and it might sway you.

Thanks for the link. Interestingly, it seems many people in the thread suggest not buying insurance at all, since out of warranty replacement is not much more than applecare.

Just saw you posted a second link. Off to read that one!
