Tennis shoes/sneakers with smooth surface soles?

Anyone have experience with this style of shoes? I ordered some tennis shoes for DS2 and when they came they looked great except for the shoes which are a smooth plastic type surface that doesn't seem like it would have enough traction and also wouldn't hold up well.

Any thoughts?
