View Full Version : Anyone have Ikea Borgsjo shelves?

We are looking for pseudo-built ins for our basement and I like how two or three of the Borgsjo units look next to each other. Does anyone have anything from this line? I love our Expedits but I think a huge 5X5 can be a bit overwhelming and I want room to store some larger games and such that won't fit the Expedit. But if it's junk, I'll go with a smaller Expedit and deal with it.

Any feedback greatly appreciated!

I have no idea, but I've seen people modify the Billy with crown and base molding so it looks more built in. Some people add arches or modify in other ways to make them more custom and built in looking.

Hmm .. interesting idea - thanks for the links. What I like about the Borgsjo shelves is that they have options for drawers and doors to hide some of the stuff plus the top shelving is almost like a hutch as it's set back a little bit. The Billy has some nice options too though.

Mods - thanks for moving. I didn't mean to post this in the Bargains Forum.

I think you could still trim it out with molding if you wanted to in order to have it look more custom? I assume you could do that without interfering with the drawer and door options.

For sure - I love the trim out options and will definitely try and do something like that. Would never have thought about it but for your links. The Centsational Girl blog is great.

Would still love feedback on the Borgsjo if anyone's got it!

Have you seen this in the store? If it's what I'm thinking of, this looked kind of cheap IMO. Kind of along the lines of Sauder. I'd definitely go with Billy instead. We have 2 and love them. We got the half-length cabinet doors, which is awesome for hiding some clutter and keeping small toddlers out.

No, I haven't seen them in store yet and I actually think they look a little cheap online. I'm really glad to hear your feedback on the Billy as I wasn't sure of the quality. Maybe that's the way to go.

I've had Billy bookcases for almost 10 years, actually, and haven't found much that's as sturdy for the price.

Dunno about the ones you'd asked about, though, sorry!

If you are considering white, I have the Liatorp and I LOVE it. It's pricy for Ikea, but the quality is excellent- nicest Ikea piece I've seen. They have different door combinations also- solid or glass, but no drawer option.
