Hair color at home?

Not sure this is the right place, but the Mommywear didn't seem right either!:)

Wanting to do some minor highlights in my hair before the wedding (t-26days)....

Suggestions for brands? Any hints about 2 amateurs doing this at home? My hair is currently medium/lighter brown. SO wants some reddish highlights, and I was thinking of lightening it up a little.

Probably not what you want to hear but I don't think I'd get anywhere near home color for the first time right before my wedding. It just sounds like a recipe for disaster. Can you watch for a local salon Groupon or barter with a hairstylist friend to get it done professionally?
