Update: my brother emailed me last night and said they chose October 11, 2014 and over this past weekend (they were here for a birthday party) they chose Calamigos Ranch.

Thanks for all of the tips.

--------------------
My brother and his fiancee just got engaged last weekend. They are planning to get married somewhere close to where his fiancee grew up in Agoura Hills. They would prefer a non country club or golf course wedding, however somewhere outdoors would be preferred. I don't know what their max budget is, but the future SIL emailed a local ranch where celebrities get married (this is second hand info. from my sister) and they said that their prices start at $16K, and that is way more than they want to spend. My sister did mention that SIL would like to be able to get ready at her parent's house in Agoura Hills as well so it has to be sort of close to there so locales like Long Beach, Pasadena, or other areas are probably out. Maybe as far east as Burbank, or Sherman Oaks?

I told my sister to tell her to get on the Bridal Bargains side of this board and I am going to send her the Bridal Bargains book as an engagement gift, but thought I would post here in case anyone knew of someone.

A reasonably priced wedding planner and photographer (she started looking and found some for around $5K) might also be handy to have. They live in Portland, OR so having a planner might actually be helpful in this situation.

Please feel free to PM me off the board as well.

Check out Underwood Family Farms in Moorpark, CA. I looked at that location when I was getting married. I looked all over Ventura County for an outdoor location, and I ended up getting married in the back garden of a restaurant.

However, the prices are much higher than when I when I got married 9 years ago.

It's a little farther out, but my sister got married on a boat in Oxnard, and it was fantastic and not too expensive.

Have you ever seen "Here Comes the Guide"? There is a northern cal, and a SoCal version. I had a lot of friends who used the northern one, I can't vouch for the southern one.

I got married at a private residence in Topanga Canyon. I am sure the price has gone up and might be out of their price range but it sure was a wonderful venue.

I think my cousin got married in Topanga canyon at some winery though I don't remember seeing any vines. They had to bring everything in, and if had stormed I am not sure what they would have done, but it was beautiful (hot during the ceremony and cold by the end of the evening).

I don't know if they are affordable, but these 2 places are at Zuma Beach.

I just saw this place set up for a wedding on the beach. It looked great!

I hear they have nice weddings at Orcutt Ranch in West Hills. I don't know how pricey it is there. I have been to a wedding at Calamigos, it's nice there too. It's very outdoorsy and closer to Agoura. If she's getting ready at her parents' house, she shouldn't be more than 10-15 minutes from the venue. West Hills/Woodland Hills should be the farthest for her.

In her neck of the woods, I can't really think of anything other than country clubs and hotels. Of course it's been a while since I got married, so I'm a bit rusty.
