View Full Version : Still not sure if I have plantar flascitis (sp?) or a stress fracture

I have posted the history of this before, but briefly in early May I was on a hike that had a lot of "stairs" made out of rock with lots of distance btwn them. My heel started to hurt immediately after going btwn 2 such stairs that I had to jump btwn. Felt like a bruise and I just kept going. Though nothing of it until 3 weeks later when it seemed to hurt more on Memorial Day. I went to urgent care and they told me it was pf. Okay, but spoke to friends who recommended going to a podiatrist for more individualized guidelines. Went to a podiatrist who took x-rays and told me it was a stress fracture, put me in a boot. The boot made it feel worse. My follow up appt was 3 weeks later and she took me out of the boot and recommended heel cups. Those hurt too. So, I made an appt with the fracture specialists. I couldn't get in until today.

This dr took a new x-ray (I was okay with that b/c it feels so different from when I had the x-ray at the other dr. I had not asked for my x-ray to be sent for that reason). She thinks it is a "pf strain", and not a stress fracture. She recommended--oh, I don't have it with me--but a very specific orthotic(sp?) that you buy at a specialized shoe store as a first measure and if that doesn't work to go to customized ones. We agreed I would try physical therapy. My re-check is in 6 weeks.

Sigh, the thing is it feels a little better this week. so still not sure which of these 2 things I have! If anyone has any advice let me know. Someone had pmed me, but I didn't see it for a while later due to the new board layout..I would love to hear from that person again!

thanks!
