What staples are needed for a Fall / Winter wardrobe? (Teacher)

Please help me fill my wardrobe. Getting back to teaching after many years out, so I'm sure I need some new things. :)

What staples do you have in your Fall / Winter stuff that mix 'n match really well with many things?

p.s. I'm really bad at getting myself ready and looking decent, so share every tid bit of help you can give !
