Are matching games too young for a 6th birthday gift? We love the Eeboo matching games and were considering gifting this one (http://www.amazon.com/Eeboo-Mystery-Forest-Matching-Game/dp/B001KXMKFE/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1374241407&sr=8-3&keywords=eeboo+mystery+in+the+forest) but we aren't to 6 yet so I don't know if this is too "young". The little girl is into fairies and princesses, etc. but in a more disney manner (but I don't buy branded merchandise so I was thinking a bit outside that box.) Thoughts?

Yes, too young. Great gift for a 3/4 year old. Maybe this instead? http://www.amazon.com/eeBoo-FAIRGM-Eeboo-Fairytale-Spinner/dp/B001QKYLDU/ref=pd_sim_t_8

Thanks, I guess I was confused by the fact that the box says 5+. My DD has had a set since she was 3 and she is still getting better at it (although in reality she's already better than me). We typically play with about 3/4 of the cards. Maybe she could handle more but my mommy brain can't.

Agree its too young. At 6 yo, Ds loved games like Uno, Battleship, Sorry!, and Monopoly Jr.

I already got something for this party yesterday but this looks perfect--I'll keep it in mind for the future. This party is making me realize that DD growing up might kill me. Of course this is an "older" friend but it's scary to me that we're going to quickly go from being annoyed by Dora and Thomas to annoyed by Bratz and Monster High. I'm resisting but I hope the non-branded gift is still enjoyed.

I was going to suggest the same game. My 6 year old (nearing 7 now) has tons of fun with it.

See, I think older kids are much easier to shop for. :) Many, many cool things to get that have no branding. All the best games are for older kids anyway. ;)

I am finding it easier to shop as the girls get older (7.5). We get/give games, books, special journals and pens, magic tricks, some crafty stuff (depending on the kid), jewelry/treasure boxes - a ton of things that aren't branded. I have not given or received a Bratz or Monster High doll! (I did give a Barbie fashion design kit to one girl... My children insisted she loved both of those things, and they were right, it was a huge hit!)
