We're preparing for a puppy in a few weeks - what are your favorite toys? I want to have plenty of safe chewing options available.

Also, any other puppy "must haves" are great. We're set with the basics (bed, crate, hanging door bells, ID tag, bowls, collar, Nature's Miracle, Bitter Apple, etc.)

I've been stocking up on puppy toys recently. :) So far we have a chew stick (made from wood), several plush animals (with and without squeakers), rubber rings for tug-o-war, a rope bone, tire chew toy, soft flying disc, a couple of tennis balls, and a ball which looks like a beefy version of an O-ball. In spite of all this, I have to be constantly watching to make sure Sabrina is not chewing on the piano, sofa, children's toys, chair legs, etc. And there are a handful of sticks from the trees which she likes to chew on.

Training treats are great to have on hand. Leash or two? A collapsible water bowl is handy for longer walks to the park, etc.

Honestly? Random junk.

At first, she wasn't into treats at all. She loves playing with random things like toilet paper or paper towel tubes, extensions of vacuums, short chunks of tubing for drip systems, etc.

She'll play with the random toy, but doesn't seem to enjoy toys as much as the weird stuff. Not a huge fan of the Kong. Never chews it. Just gets food out of it (and even then not enthusiastically). Peanut butter or regular butter is a fav of hers.

She's about 3.5 months now and I finally gave her an edible chew toy. Some long stick from Target's house brand. That's been going over well.

Ah! The hedgehog! That was my previous dog's favorite. She would rip the squeaker out and play with the carcass until it was just a rag. We must have gone through a dozen of those.

Carrots - the big long kind. Messy but satisfies the chew need and doesn't hurt them if they swallow it. We had labs and this was the vet's rec. You might check with your vet re choking hazard if you have a smaller dog.

Our dog's version of this is the Hyper Products Flying Duck (http://www.petco.com/product/117275/Hyper-Products-Flying-Duck-Slingshot-Dog-Toy.aspx). She positively shakes with anticipation, if we put it away where she can see it, she'll sit at stare where it is until we get it down. It never lasts very long, but she enjoys it while she can!

In general, she likes the type of fabric it is made from (that ballistic nylon). But the Duck is the best to her.

I have given up on Nylabones, she needs the "super chewer" variety and they just become shredded, pointy and dangerous!

The Kong (http://www.petco.com/product/2324/KONG-Dog-Toy.aspx?CoreCat=OnSiteSearch) is great. She'll occassionally chew on it even when not stuffed. She's had the some one for over a year, which is a record.

Which/where did you get the door bells? I wanted to get those, but didn't find any good ones.
