Hi all,

I am traveling to NY next week with my 2 year old (and 9 year old) and I'm
trying to figure out which stroller to bring for my 2 yr old son. I've always
brought my old 2004 P3 to NY because of the full recline for naps and diaper
changes, large storage capacity, child tray for on the go meals, and the ability
to hang anything on the handles without it tipping. However, getting it to fit
in taxi's has always been a struggle, I need a hood extension to make the canopy
coverage adequate, and the steering and maneuverability aren't great.

I would love to bring a lightweight stroller that's easy to tote around and is
more streamlined.

I will be staying at a hotel and taking taxi's daily back and forth to my
family's house as well as using it to walk to the playground and local stores
(on suburban sidewalks). I would love to bring a stroller that has a full
recline for naps and I also prefer the leg extension because without one, my son
plants his feet down on the ground to prevent me from strolling him when he
rather get out and walk -- and also it makes diaper changes a lot easier.

I am deciding between the:

City Mini GT (no leg extension, difficult recline mechanism, but the canopy
coverage is great and great steering. I have the child tray on it, but I find
it difficult and clumsy to fold the stroller with the child tray on)

Peg Perego Vela Easy Drive (no leg extension and difficult recline mechanism,
but folds super easy -- one handed, and has a child tray, however the canopy
may need an extension and it can be tippy)

Maclaren Quest Sport 2013 (not a lot of storage, although I bought Hamster
pannier bags to put on each side which may also help with the tippiness, and it
may need a hood extension. However, it reclines totally flat, has the leg
extension and folds slim. I also have a child tray from Baby Trend to use with
this, but I'd have to pop it off to fold and store in one of the Hamster bags)

Peg Perego P3 (the 2004 model needs a hood extension but it reclines totally
flat, however it steers pretty bad at this point. My 2011 P3 has a great hood,
but it doesn't recline flat enough for me to change my son's diaper when he's
being difficult. The leg extension prevents my son from planting his feet on
the ground. Both P3's are bulky to put in a small taxi)

Which would you bring? Thanks for any advice!

Based on your needs and what you have available, I'd take the Maclaren Quest. It has the recline, leg extension, tray and slim fold. Those seem to be key features for your needs and the hood & storage issues can be resolved. I hope you have a great trip! :)

I agree. At age two and for a trip, I would go with sunscreen and hats to solve the hood issue.

Thanks for the advice -- I was thinking the same thing -- I also remember it was a tight fit to send the P3 through the xray machine. The Quest will be easier to fit in cabs and loading up the Hamster bags should eliminate the tipping issue and surprisingly the stroller still has a slim profile with them on. I like to keep one Hamster packed with toys and the Babytrend child tray that fits on the Quest frame, and the other Hamster bag filled with diapers/wipes/cream and DS's stuffed bear "leash" that I need in airports, malls, and anywhere else he can take off, plus I can stuff small purchases into them as well.

Crossing fingers that I don't regret not bringing the P3. I'm always jealous of those moms who can bring the Volo or tiny umbrella stroller and a small carry on with just a few things and they seem to be fine. I'm always trying to figure out a way to travel lighter, and I haven't succeeded yet.
