View Full Version : I have the worst luck with doctors!

Just got a letter that my doctor is leaving the group practice and I have no forwarding info for her.
The office just said that "she is no longer practicing medicine". I really liked her! I am thinking she may have decided to start a family, as she had previously told me that she always felt she could not do both and she was 100% committed to her patients. OR who knows, maybe she had some big malpractice suit or something. Either way, I am :(
She was the only reason I was still with that HMO group. And I had already struck out on finding a gyno (first one who delivered DD retired, second and third ones were horrible) and so I was just going to this regular doctor for annual exams.

Back to square one again!

Luckily I found a neurologist I like (after a bizarre turn of events with my prior neuro), and I like the kids' ped group.

Ugh. I hate that. Good luck finding someone new.

I'm glad it wasn't your neurologist. When I first started reading I though, oh no that's awful. Not that losing a good OB/GYN isn't too, but still. Sorry.

:yeahthat: That's awful. It's really hard finding a doctor. One of the worst things about moving. And you didn't even move!

My primary care doctor got fed up with dealing with insurance and just quit to go get acupuncture training so I am right there with you. She did a really good job of coordinating care with several specialists and I dread finding a replacement.

My DD's first ped retired to spend time with her kids. I was super bummed. I hope you find someone you like!

This is usually a sticky situation if your doctor is going to another practice or starting her own. The current practice doesn't want to lose patients so they will just say she is leaving. I'm not saying she isnt just stopping for a while but if you really like her it would behoove you to goggle &/or look in the newspaper for a "welcome to the practice Dr. Smith" type ad.

Hope you can find her!

Eta: I totally missed the "not practicing medicine anymore " part. Sorry.
Having to search for good doctors is not fun.

Also, if you really want to find out whether she may have moved out of the area or is now affiliated with a different local hospital, your state's Medical Board website can be helpful. These vary in terms of how much detail they give and how easy they are to navigate, but I've used this to help a friend in a similar situation find where her doctor had gone.

ETA: I also missed the "not practicing medicine" part, too, but in this situation too, the Med Bd site can sometimes shed some light. Is her medical license still active? Was there any sort of disciplinary action? Etc...

In re: Not practicing anymore... when DH quit to start his own practice, when clients called his old employer to ask for him, they were leading clients to believe DH quit practicing law. It might be worth doing a little digging just in case. It is hard to find a good doctor.
