Would you name a girl Ivy? And what is a cute middle name that would go with it? I like the name Ava, but it is far too common for my tastes so I was trying to think of similar, less-used names. Still don't know if this baby is a boy or a girl, though....ha ha!

Yes! It's my dd's name and we adore it. Everyone compliments her name.

I :heartbeat: Ivy for a girl. Some ideas:

Ivy Corrinne
Ivy Elizabeth
Ivy Marie
Ivy Suzanne
Ivy Kathleen
Ivy Danielle
Ivy Paige
Ivy Louise
Ivy Rose
Ivy Noelle
Ivy Rae
Ivy Jane
Ivy Claire
Ivy Amelia
Ivy Cecilia

(Sorry, just escaping momentarily from my personal naming prison into a world where the possibilities are endless. :) )

Ivy's a great name! What would go best with it depends on your last name. If your last name has one syllable, then try a multisyllabic middle name, like Ivy Elizabeth Jones. If your last name is multi syllabic, try a name with one syllable, like Ivy Grace Samuels.

OOH, I like Ivy Grace!! I had totally forgotten that Grace was on my name list before we found out #1 was a boy! My last name is 2 syllables, so I think it would work...

I like Ivy. Eve is also similar to Ava, but not as common.

I know an Ivy and while I wouldn't pick it myself, I think it's a great name! It can go with lots of middle names, I think!

I think Ivy is cute! When she's older, she can get an Ivy AG doll! ;)

I wouldn't use Ava or Eve as middle names - too similar to Ivy. For some reason I like Ivy Jean or Ivy Sloane.

I like Ivy but I prefer the old-timey feel of Ida.

It was on the short lust of girls' names for us. My Dad's name is Ivey.

In a similar vein, there's also Ita (a friend's daughter, pronounced E-ta).

I like Ivy Rose. Very cute. Different but not weird.

If you like Ava, what about Eva?

Love the name Ivy. It was on my short-list but hubby didn't like it (like most of my short-list names :p).

I love it! It has older roots, yet is modern enough for today. Plus, you don't need to shorten it to a nn.

One Ivy I know is 6, and the other is 2. The 2 yr. old's middle name is Joy, which is a family name of all of the girls born in the family so there was no changing it.

I know of one Ava who was born in 07.

FWIW my sister is a Sarah and that was a top 5 name in 87, my sister was about the only Sarah in her class except for high school, and then in college.

Hmm, sounds like Ivy is more common than I thought. When we chose DS's name I only knew one other person with that name but at his 2 yr old ped visit there were 3 boys with his name in the waiting room at the same time!!

Only know 1 Ivy and she was named after her mom's maiden family name. So commonality is probably regional.

I love nature names and Ivy is always on my list. The only thing that keeps me from it is every summer I get a nasty case of poison ivy and then go off the name! But I think it's great most of the time!

I like the name Ivy for a girl (provided its not preceeded by Blue) ;)

I like it! It is pretty and seems classic enough (not a made up name at all) but at the same time it is not terribly common. :) It has pretty associations too.

Just remember that Beyoncé's little girl is Blue Ivy ... not sure if it matters or not but it could make the name more popular. That said, I like the name Ivy. Knew an Ivy growing up.

I like it, but prefer the spelling Ivey for a name.

I love Ivy for a girl! There was an Ivy in my elementary school and she was adorable. I have always loved that name!

I love the name Ivy! Ivy Grace sounds precious. I think it would go well with a single-syllable middle name.

I have a thing for "I" girls' names as they are rather rare (my daughter's name starts with "I"). And DD has a single-syllable middle name.

We have friends that just named their daughter Ivy Jane. (After the dad's grandfather Irving) she is the only Ivy we have met and I adore her name!

I have a great aunt named Iva. That might be another option to consider....sort of like Ava, but sort of like Ivy too.

I think it is a pretty name. It probably will see an increase in popularity over the next few years given the American Girl doll and the success of the "Ivy and Bean" books. Not sure if that's a factor for you. I tried to pick an unpopular name for my daughter and in the eight years since she was born, it has soared in popularity (thanks, Sex in the City!)
