I was thinking about maybe placing an order on hm.com but wondered about sizing. I really haven't bought much there besides socks and don't know how things run. My daughter is 5.5 years old and 42.5" tall and 23" around (waist/chest) and weighs probably 42 or 43 lbs. by now. I'm not sure. Anyway, should I size up, because I generally find that less expensive clothing is usually less generously cut? And to accommodate for shrinkage? What do you think?

I'm specifically thinking of these tops, because DD likes to wear summer dresses with a long sleeved top underneath: http://www.hm.com/us/product/03954?article=03954-T&variant=122

and I think these dresses look so cute: http://www.hm.com/us/product/14266?article=14266-A#cm_vc=GOES_WITH_PD

Thanks for the input!

H&M sizing runs small. I always buy the next size up. Anyway, I prefer the cm sizing anyway as I am in Europe so I get slightly more accurate sizing than US sizing.

Oh, I wish it had the cm sizing... but the US website just says, well, for the dress anyway, 4-6y or 6-8y. So I guess if it turns out too big, she can always wear it next year! Thanks for the input all the way from Germany!

You can change the web site settings. Change the country and look for the size chart. I do this for Next, Boden, H&M...every European store. I find British sizing even more confusing that American. LOL

I'd error on the side of sizing up, especially for shirts.

My DS is wearing a size 6 shirt and has all but outgrown the 4-6.

I haven't noticed much shrinkage with the organic fabrics, but have with the non-organic thinner shirts.

I find that their 4-6 fits more like the US size 5. I like their clothes for kids a lot but sizing can vary from item to item. Be mindful, as someone else pointed out to me, that you can't return items purchased online to a B&M store. You can only return by mail and pay for the return shipping.

Also use code 0241 to get 20% off one item in your cart.

Let me put it this way - my 38-ish inch 3.5 year old can wear the size 4-6y without looking ridiculous.

Size up.
