I am thinking of buying my son one of the Brickmaster sets for Christmas. He turns 5 a few weeks after Christmas. He enjoys blocks and building. He loved his Duplos when he was 2-3.5, but plays with the Legos (we have a small beginner set) only occasionally. Are the Brickmaster series good? Is one set better than the other in your experience? TIA

Big fan of the brickmaster, esp for a beginner. (and heck, even for a lego expert!) There's a little story and blocks that can build 3-4 different models. I dont think DS has ever read the stories, but loves them anyway. I dont think you can easily find (if at all) the models elsewhere.

For a general set, the city one is good and easy for younger kids. I personally like the Castle one the best, but not sure of the ages. Ninjago and Star Wars ones are huge hits for fans of those.

We love the brickmaster sets as well. I think they are great for beginners.

I think they are great too, except that storing the big books (with instructions) is a pain!

Costco has a few (I remember Star Wars, Chima, Ninjago, Friends) for $14.79.
