I've not had one in 8 years - as DH gets up super early and always wakes me up in the process. When I wake up in the middle of the night or pass through my bedroom doing laundry, I want to know what time it is. The ability to play music would be nice, not completely necessary, but it may be nice. I want something not very expensive. Any ideas?

He's super cute and 4 years old. You can borrow him indefinitely. However, he's permanently set to wake between 4;45 and 5:30. You can probably ask him to sing a wake up song or buzz in your ear. He won't go back to bed, so there's no chance of sleeping through the alarm.

Well, Georgiegirl's alarm clock is the best one! My lesser alternative is this Emerson SmartSet Alarm Clock from Target. I have owned it for more than two years with no problems. I love that if it is accidentally unplugged, it automatically goes back to the time. It is a tad more complicated than needed to be, so if you like things very straightforward, it may not be for you:

I just got this one:

Price was right and I like the humidity gauge on it. There is a USB charging spot so I guess you could hook up an MP3 player for music?

My big old bose alarm clock has a blown speaker. I am watching this thread for suggestions too! :)

We have three of these: http://www.amazon.com/Timex-T715BYC-Alarm-Clock-Radio/dp/B003ARSOWQ

I have an Emerson one like the PP linked and it works OK as well. The first Emerson one I got DS1 stopped working after a month, so we switched to the Timex ones and those have been fine for over a year now.

I've had this one now for 25+ years. It still works awesome and at this point, I just can't part with it because it's been such loyal friend for so long.

I also have the one from Costco. I love the clock except that it lights up the entire room!

ok - I'll check out some of these... I got this one for $3 from the thrift shop, but one speaker isn't as loud as the other. http://www.amazon.com/Timex-T309T-Nature-Sounds-Titanium/dp/B000092TSX

I saw the one from Costco at Sam's, but it gave me a bit of a panic b/c there's so much info on it!

Omg!!! I had that exact same one! Got it for my birthday in first grade and used it for over 20 yrs too for the same reason. A few years back it started having button issues and I finally had to give it up. Hilarious that someone else used the same one for so long too. I was always impressed that a little pink clock radio kept ticking for such a long time and even survived so many moves.

I got mine for Christmas in the mid 80's. My Dad picked it out for me and I recall opening it on Christmas eve. I'm totally impressed that it still even works, but it does. It sits proudly on my nightstand and will continue to do so until it quits working. So far so good on the buttons...I anticipate the sleep button to wear out at some point because it gets pushed multiple times a day :)

I had that one too!!! Loved it! I remember listening to Paula Abdul and Michael Jackson on the radio in my pink bedroom :)
