For the ladies with curly hair and curly haired kids please :)

My SIL has requested a good organic hair detangler for my niece's bday present! I love how practical and fun the idea is as I have bone straight hair (literally, I used to make my mom put it up in hot rollers - a total pain with tons of hair - and the curl lasted about five minutes!) so have not much experience with hair products....... Oh. Well. Bleach. :D

Do you guys have any recommendations please? She mentioned she's tried "cheapo" ones to no avail so I know she would like something good quality for her.....I am happy to spend up to $25 I think (maybe that could get me two to send?).

Any btdt and help SO appreciated :)

If she has conditioner that works well with her hair, put a small dollop of that in a spray bottle, fill with warm water, and shake to mix. You can go back and add more conditioner, so start with a small amount. It's hard to find the right conditioner. My hair hates coconut oil and anything with silicone.

For your gift, I'd get something from Sephora because she can return it if it doesn't work. Bumble & Bumble probably has a detangler spray.

I use this for DD

The conditioner is also pretty good and it can be used as a leave in if needed

This is what we do as well. My DD's hair is really tough to brush in the mornings and I spray the homemade detangler on her dry hair. It makes brushing SO much easier! Of course this doesn't help if it's a gift. But maybe you can make her the spray and then get her something else?

Dr. Bronner's Hair Conditioning Creme is pretty nice. It's a leave-in conditioner and comes in lavender and peppermint: http://www.drbronner.com/DBMS/HAIR.htm

I have very coarse, wavy hair (used to be really curly but less so since I had kids) and have used it. It meets the criteria of being organic, having yummy smells IMO, and you only need a little bit. It would also work really well diluted in water in a spray bottle as PPs have mentioned.

Thanks for all the ideas everyone! I'm thinking I can get a fancier organic one at Spehora and then get a good quality wide tooth comb and do the Dr. Bronner idea with a cute new spray bottle :)

And I may make DN some cookies ;)

I've heard raves for Knot Today by Kinky Curly, http://kinky-curly.com/shop.php. It's available online several place and IRL at Whole Foods, I think. Another nice gift option would be the sample kit for Shea Moisture, http://www.walgreens.com/search/results.jsp?Ntt=SheaMoisture. Walgreen's sells the kit with 4 smaller sized products in the Coconut Hibiscus line (coral/orange products) and another line, probably the gold one. However, I own the detangler, the styling milk and the moisture mist and don't think either detangle all that well, although they are good moisturizers.

We have the detangler spray by Babo Botanicals and I like it a lot: http://www.drugstore.com/babo-botanicals-instanly-smooth-detangler-berry-primrose/qxp335501?catid=182481. It has a pretty scent to it too, kind of like roses.

DD has very fine, straight hair but flyaway, especially after this summer. I was looking for new ideas of conditioners and detangling sprays and from reading some past BBB threads, ended up getting Babo Botanicals Swim and Sport detangling spray for her along with the matching shampoo (her hair was like straw from a summer of ocean and pool swimming). She likes the shampoo a lot and LOVES the detangling spray. Says it makes her hair so soft and shiny, and she likes the scent. But since she has fine hair and detangling is not a huge issue, I didn't think of suggesting them! Jennifer, I think I'll check out the one you posted too, since DD likes the other one so much.

I use Mixed Chicks leave-in conditioner for kids on my daughter. It's fragrance and paraben free. Marketed to mixed-race kids, but great for anyone with coarse or curly hair! http://www.mixedchicks.net/kileco.html
