We have a simple human stainless steel trash an now. We have had it for many years and the lid does not work any more. We need to replace it but since our trashcan is in the pantry, I don't feel the need to shell out for another stainless steel one. Can you recommend your trashcan? We prefer one that has a step to open the lid. Right now I am planning on getting this one at BBB but I have Target, Walmart and many other stores near me. Thanks.

Our simply human trashcan, which was something crazy like $150+ brand new has a broken spring. So, for the last two yrs, it has had a rather jerky open and close. My dh called SH to try to order a new spring and they basically told him that it would be cheaper to buy a new trashcan (???)! I know that at sam's club right now, there is a tramotina trash can that looks like a SH knock off. It's about $55. Here is a link... http://www.samsclub.com/sams/tramontina-step-waste-can-stainless-steel/prod5170167.ip

I have no clue how well it performs, but I am kind of pissed that we paid so much for a SH and their CS sucks. Bil and sil's SH trash can also did the same thing (spring went bad). My DH is reluctant to get a new trash can now, to replace the SH one since it was so expensive. However, if I were to get one right now (and yes, our appliances are all SS, so I would just get a trash can to match, since ours sits out in the open), I'd try the one I linked above.

This is the trash can we have now, and I really love it! It has the lid you wanted plus the lid locks easily, if needed. BTW I just use regular tall kitchen bags with it, and they work just fine.
