Just talked to customer service about returning an item that I bought with the "get $25 off when you spend over $100" code. Returning the item was going to take me below the $100 total, so she suggested doing an exchange instead and clearly marking my return form.

This way the offer of $25 off will still stand! Otherwise, you lose it.....
