So we keep getting Wishcraft catalogs in the mail with those gorgeous and $$$ Halloween costumes. DD wants to be a rainbow but I am not paying $68 for a costume. Do they ever have coupons or deals before Halloween? I checked Etsy and they are equally as expensive (but some very cute costumes!).

Or any other places to get something similar? I am trying to steer her towards something a little easier to find not to mention cheaper...

they have some prior year wishcraft costumes at marshalls/tjmaxx. i bought one last year for $35 that we're going to wear this year! i didn't see the rainbow one but it's worth a try to see if there's something your daughter likes. they had a kimono outfit and a couple of neat girls princessy dresses.

Great thanks, I will check those out. She liked a lot of them so if she sees one in person that may really help!

Dd 1 also saw that rainbow costume and wanted to be a rainbow for a few weeks- I wasn't paying those prices either so started researching other ideas- I settled on a rainbow tutu from etsy for around $20 and rainbow leggings from amazon for $5 and then she changed her mind :)

I would make one of those easy tulle knot tutus with a bunch of different colors, white pants/leggings, and a sparkly blue top/leotard (or plain blue, but we love sparkle at our house). But it wouldn't be as cute as the dress :)

My DD#2 also wants to be a rainbow this year. I ordered her this rainbow stripe pettiskirt a while back during a 40% off sale at HaloHeaven: http://www.haloheaven.com/product_p/petmd59str.htm I am planning to sew her a patchwork-type rainbow t-shirt using some cheap LS t-shirt and some calico scraps from my stash. Something like this: https://www.etsy.com/listing/113504864/pink-long-sleeve-rainbow-tshirt-size-78?ref=favs_view_3
Bought a few colors of fabric at Joann's today (all Calico 30% off right now). I also noticed that they had rainbow feather boas too, but that might be overkill. Can't decide what if anything I'll do for her hair, and I may do rainbow stripe legwarmers on either her arms or her legs, but as luck wold have it, I can only find one from our pair of them, so maybe not.

Thanks for all the great ideas! I was about to order the rainbow tutu but at ballet class they were selling last years recital outfits for $10 and she decided on a bright red sparkly ballerina outfit :-). Maybe with or without rainbow tights. It is always a fine line in buying costumes because if I buy too early she can change her mind. If I but too late, they may not have her size. Lets see if this costume desire makes it all the way to Halloween!

I've never seen them discounted in anyway, only free shipping. My daughter got the tootsie roll costume and it was close to $80 with shipping. My MIL bought it for her b-day and at least I know I probably will get some $ back selling it next year on ebay.
