DD1 has her heart set on being a kitty this year. Halloween is always hard for her - she changes her mind till the very last minute and in previous years has ditched the costume she begged for the morning of Oct 31 for something familiar. This year she has literally nothing she could even begin to squeeze in to. She wears a size 8 or 9. Most kitty costumes are either furry toddler costumes or trampy teenager costumes (why do they think 13 year old girls should look trampy???).

It's typically quite warm here on Halloween - 65-75 degrees. Something simple like this PBK costume (http://www.potterybarnkids.com/products/kitty-tutu-costume/?cm_src=AutoSchRel) with a fitted top, kitty ears and flouncy skirt might be cute. It's sold out in her size, and frankly, I don't think I want to pay $70 for a costume. I could put it together but a) she really wants a store-bought costume (as discussed in the other thread on Halloween supermom!) and b) I'm guessing there's one out there that meets these criteria.

If you've seen anything at a B&M store, Target, Halloween City, amazon.com, Etsy, or other online retailer, please let me know! Thanks!

DD was a cheetah last year, and we bought ears and a tail from a costume store and cheetah skirt from target. I paired it with a black shirt and black tights. Target also had a cheetah cardigan and cheetah ballet flats that I did not buy. I used eye lone for whiskers, would your DD be okay with a piecemeal costume. Both target and costume stores will have kitty ears and a tail, then maybe you can add a cute skirt.

The cheetah skirt from target was only $5 and the ears and tail were maybe $10, so it was a very inexpensive costume.

You can find the ears and tail in any Halloween costume store. We got ours at Party City. Younger DD wore that along with black leggings and black turtleneck (both from Target).

Would the purchased ears/tail make it "store bought"? She also carried a stuffed black cat.

I saw a set of ears/tail/collar at Target - $8. DD2 also wants to be a cat, she'll have that, black pants, black top, whiskers. And a big sigh of relief from me! :)

Is this too sexy?

You could tone it down by adding a long sleeve black t-shirt under the costume. (And of course, subtract the styled hair and makeup. ;) )

Get the ears & tail from any party store and add your own tutu, leggings, and tee. If she wants gloves, you can usually find those this time of year, too.

Grab a makeup crayon (we use these: http://www.novanatural.com/face-pencils.html) and draw on a nose & whiskers and VOILA!

Wanted to add that Target also had black tutus ($10), I only saw the adult sizes but grabbed them anyway. Not sure if DDs will use them but at least I have them!

I think this one would be cute for that age, in Medium?
