I need some comfy closed toe shoes to wear to and from work in the fall and spring. I wore my tennis shoes today because there was no way I could wear my 4 inch heels and was feeling decidedly frumpy. I need something comfy that looks good with slacks and tights. I mostly have camel and cream colored coats and my work purse is tan as well. I have Ugg boots and Hunter boots for winter.

These are my commute shoes:

http://www.amazon.com/Cole-Haan-Gramercy-Captoe-Oxford/dp/B00BPR1H1S/ref=sr_1_11?s=shoes&ie=UTF8&qid=1381420086&sr=1-11&keywords=cole+haan+oxford

They are flat and comfy (Nike Air). They have a bit of whimsy to them, so not frumpy, more funky, I hope. :)

I wear black most of the time, but they do come in different colours.

http://www.colehaan.com/womens-shoes/oxfords I think those are quite fashionable but I don't think I could pull them off. :)

I did order these but am looking for more options:

Walking + train. I have to walk about 6 long city blocks from the train station. It's about a 10 minute walk.

Well there's a lot in between 4 inch heels and tennis shoes ;). How about just some comfortable ballet flats? There was actually a recent thread about that. Or do you think you need something even more comfortable?

I like Clarks for shoes that don't look ridiculous under dress pants or even a skirt but are very comfortable for lots of walking. I have Clarks that are ballet style and others that look more like loafers. I will admit that I don't wear heals unless forced and I have very sensitive feet so I tend to just wear my Clarks all day. Even some of the privos, while pretty casual have been on my feet for most of a day if I am wearing long enough pants.

:yeahthat: If you can find a pair you like, Privos are incredibly comfy. Like walking on a cloud- you barely feel the ground underneath you.

Thanks all. Those ballet flats are cute cvabrunt. I need something that will hold up in rain so not sure ballet flats will do the trick there. I do have some tori burch revas that I wear sometimes.

I just got these two pairs and love them both. Very comfy for all day, every day, and both look good with skirts or pants/jeans. I got the Clarks in cranberry suede but now that I know how awesome they are, I might get one of the leather pairs so I can wear them in the rain.

I love the Cole Haan Air Tali wedge for commuting. It's comfortable and has been fine in light rain. For heavier rain, you can use the hunters. My coworker wears a Puma flat that also looks very comfortable.

This might sound ridiculous to you but would you consider Dansko professional clogs? I find them crazy comfy, unless on uneven terrain. I often commute in them in the fall and spring and actually forgot until now. There are tons of colors, like oxblood patent or plain black. I appreciate they are not your style, but keep an open mind. Who ever thought you would love camping?

I wear these at work, I have to have closed toed shoes and I walk a lot. They are super comfy, and I often wear them when out running errands. I get tons of compliments on them. I've found them at TJMaxx...the rubber sole makes them easy to walk in.

I wear these: http://www.zappos.com/calvin-klein-saxton-black-patent when I need to walk from the Metro, but also need to keep my pants from dragging on the pavement. They're high enough to do that, but not too high to walk comfortably. Not sure if they're super great for rain, though they do come in non-patent leather options. If I'm wearing a skirt I just throw on some ballet flats or loafers.

Another direction....you know that Hunter makes ballet flats, right? http://www.zappos.com/hunter-romilly-flame No idea how comfy they are, but they are waterproof.

I think those Born are the best of the bunch. I wouldn't want anything too flat, I'd be afraid my hem would get wet.

i have the Ugg Elin. I like them for short distances, they have very arch support and tire my feet. They are toasty, nice for driving DDs to school.

I would look at the clark’s slip on loafers, but they will probably be a darker shade than you want. I have a pair of dark brown clarks for rain days that I like a lot but they are old. The top is similar to the Clark’s Ingalls Geneva (http://www.amazon.com/Clarks-Womens-Ingalls-Geneva-Slip-On/dp/B006R4KS14/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1381495010&sr=8-1&keywords=clarks+ingalls+geneva), but the bottom is definitely more like the Clark’s Grasp (http://www.amazon.com/Clarks-Womens-Grasp-Idea-Loafer/dp/B00ATY3BE4/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1381495069&sr=8-1&keywords=clarks+grasp). (I have to have a heel or my pants will drag.) I do not own the geneva so I can't say how comfortable they are. The grasp are my black rainy days and they are very comfortable for walking and sort of cover your whole foot against splash.

I agree, a.two inch wedge is perfect, still comfortable but accommodates pants hemmed for heels. I have bought synthetic (patent or other "fake" leather) so I can wear them in all weather conditions (snow rarely an issue here).

I already have two pairs of Air Tali wedges. They are ok for walking, but I do get foot cramps from walking in them all day, so I want something more comfortable than that. Keep the recs coming! Kindra, I definitely see the purpose for those kind of shoes now - especially with our weather.

I do have that issue a lot so I have to resort to folding the bottom of my pants. lol. They are pretty long since they need to look good with the heels I keep at work all of which are 3 inches plus. When I lived in the city, I would suck it up and wear heels to work, but I am so over that now with my longer commute!
