Ds is 2.5 in a size 3t. I got an awesome lands end winter coat on sale, but I feel like I need something to bridge the gap until then. He has an adidas fleece from last year, but it is a medium weight fleece, and doesn't really feel warm enough for 50 degree days. He will be outside playing for half an hour on pre-school days, and we take a lot of walks.

I have an old navy gift card, and I am considering buying either of these, but can't really tell how warm they are compared to what he has:

anyone have any of these jackets? Or something else they like that is 25$ or less

Hanna Andersson Fleece Lined Parka. We have a few 50 degree or lower days and my girls haven't complained about being cold. I paid $38 for them at the Hanna Andersson outlet during the October sale in 2008, and 2009 (they last a couple of seasons, DD1 just barely outgrew the 100 last year). They usually have a blue or green colored one for the boys, and it will most likely be last year's jacket, but honestly it is such a great jacket that I will buy them sight unseen (although Gymbofriends should have a link to last year's catalog).

My preschooler usually wears the inner fleece from a 3 in 1 jacket like target's until it's cold enough for both parts. I think the target coat is on sale for $30 or less this week. We do the same with the children's place version.

Planning to get fleece lined parka from hanna for my boys. Outer ware sale going on right now. I love that they wash so well just throw em in the wash. Winters here is in 50s and it's perfect for it.

My kids wear LLbean fleece lined camp hoodies a lot in the fall and spring - anywhere from 35-40 degrees to 55-60ish. They both wore them this am and it was about 45. We do live in a cold snowy climate though and typically don't pull out the big coats til it is 20-30 degrees.

We do something similar. I have mid-weight coats for both boys for fall, but I find I just put them in the sherpa hoodies. Super comfy for them, and more flexible as far as indoor/outdoor play. This is what DS1 has:

I'm looking for a mid-weight jacket for DD1 for school (1st grade). Last year she had a thicker fleece jacket from ON but it is too short this year. Was hoping I could find something similar there this year as I have ON cash to use this weekend. It has been in the 40's when we go to the bus in the mornings and is about 50 when they go outside for recess. So not quite cold enough for her winter coat but too cold for her thin fleece lined windbreaker.

Mine love love LOVE this sherpa-lined jacket from Lands End. We've bought them for 2 years in a row now. They're perfect for 40-50 degree days, which gets us through most of the fall/winter here:)

:yeahthat: We have the same coat. He either wears the inner fleece to that or a light fleece-lined jacket from Costco.

My Costco had some fleece-lined nylon zip-ups (with a hood) a little while ago from London Fog that is working nicely. Mopey is in a size 3 at 19 months with just the sleeves rolled once (but she's pretty tall). Maybe they still have them?

DD has sherpa-lined hoodie from MiniBoden. SO warm. Yeah, i know most will say it's too pricey at ~$50 and I would agree..i got mine for $19.95 at Nordstrom Rack :) And i know i will be able to make that (if not more) when i resell it after its outgrown. Mini Boden sherpa hoodies go for $$$, even used (especially the star ones).

We have the older version of this from 203 years ago - it's fabulous!

Not toddlers, but they're wearing this:
http://www.landsend.com/products/girls-polartec-aircore-200-zip-hoodie/id_249492

The air core fleece is really warm. I know they sell boys' too. Of the jackets you posted OP, the first one looked the warmest. The middle one looked least warm, it didn't look like the sleeves were warm.

We have the LLBean fleece and also a quilted 'barn like' jacket from GAP and Ralph Lauren (I have 2 DD's).

We just wear the 3-in-1 jackets from Childrens Place.. Used the thick fleece liner only but now the temps have dropped to high 30's when we walk to school in the morning, goes up to 50'ish in the pm, so she wears the whole thing to school, but coming back, I just unzip the outer layer and stuff it in her backpack.

She's currently wearing an OshKosh fleece a size bigger than her clothes so I can layer under it.

When it gets colder, we have this from Carter's:

They don't take them out if the temp's below 32F.

Yes, I have one of these that I got DS last year that he should be able to wear this year. I got it for $15 (orginally $49), when Gap was having an additional 40% off of sale prices.

Not to derail: But those of you with the 3-in-1 jackets. Are they easy to deal with as far as zipping the liners in and out? Can your preschooler do it his/her self? DH and I sort of got into it this morning (LOL) because it was in the low 30s this morning but upper 50s are forecast for the afternoon. I said DS could wear his quilted coat and gloves because his Gap Warmest coat would be too hot this afternoon. And DH wanted him to wear the Warmest coat because the morning was cold. The problem with the 3-in-1 is I don't know how much the teachers will fuss with helping the kids - they are supposed to be able to get their stuff on by mostly themselves.

I love our 3-in-1 coats from TCP, but I do not think that preschoolers can do it themselves. Just putting their own coats on and possibly zipping them up can be a challenge at that age. Getting that thing inside and then zipped up is way beyond what DS1 can do. We don't take ours apart that regularly. I just like that we can make adjustments and use the fleece, the outer shell, or both together depending on how cold it is.

OP here - we actually have this coat, but it's not warm enough for the lower temps. I think next year I will probably just get him a 3-in-1, cause I have one for my 11.5 month old and I can see that we can get through the whole season with just one coat. I am going to get one of the sherpa lined hoodies I think, although it seems to have gotten like 20 degrees colder here in the past week...so might need the heavy coat sooner than I thought

:yeahthat: Except that my kids want to wear shorts and t-shirts in 50 degree weather. But I just buy them a LL Bean Fleece and they usually wear that until early November and then at some point when it gets to the 30s we have to switch to their LL Bean Parkas. I probably should have a jacket for in between. LIke a light down sweater or something like that. But we make do with the 2 jackets. My daughter is always hot and wants to wear shorts in November! But I am always cold and want the kids to dress warmer. We live in Burlington, VT if that matters.

My DS wear his fleece weather lined jacket from children's plaxe, which is perfect for those 50's temps were getting now. I anticipate by after thanksgiving/early dec, we'll switch over to Lbean parka jacket for colder temps.

My girls are wearing fleece lined windbreakers that I got off of Zulilly. They have winter coats too but these will probably work for them for about 75% of winter
