How long after you get your membranes swept does labor start? I am trying to plan for child care for DD when I go into labor. My membranes are being swept at 3 pm on Wednesday afternoon. My mom lives 2 hours away. I just asked her to spend the night but I don't want to waste her time. She stayed with me this past week while DH was traveling.

With ds1, 72 hours. So who knows if it was the sweep or just bc I was 42 weeks and it was bound to happen. :). With ds2, the midwife with the best sweep to labor track record did it at noon and contractions started at 4. I didn't need to go in til midnight and ds2 wasn't born til 7am.

Sometimes it doesn't. Just be aware. Once, it seemed to help, but with Ds, it didn't do a darn thing.

I had them done with DD at 41w 4d and she was born 3 days later. Labor started about 18 hours before that. I'd say about 2.5 days after the sweep.

With DD2 I had them done at 4 pm and my water broke at 11pm. Hard labor didn't start until about 6:30 am and I had her at 8:30. I was two days shy if 39 weeks pregnant.

I only had mine stripped once, with dd1, and my OB said if it was going to work, it would start labor within 24 hours. I went into labor more like 30 hours later.

With DD1, within 12-14 hours. I was also far along (41 weeks 4 days) but I do think that the membrane sweeping helped start things up.

I think I remember 24-48 hours after the sweep, labor should begin. That's what happened here.

Thanks everyone. Seems varied so I will just have my mom come down. Feel bad making her just hang out and cancel all of her plans for nothing but also don't want the added stress of child care. We do have a back up plan but it is not as ideal.

It didn't work for me. They did it twice with DD2. Nothing worked. The thing that got her to come was the doctor saying "she just isn't going to come naturally and we can't wait any longer. Let's schedule the c section" never tell DD2 she can't do something :)

Did it twice with Dolly and nothing happened.

With DS2, I was 40+4 and 3cm dilated, and I had my membranes swept at 3:30 PM. My water broke at 9:30pm, and labor started soon after midnight. And baby arrived the next morning shortly before 6am. I've heard that it doesn't increase yr chance of labor, but it does increase your chance of your water breaking first.

I didn't have my membranes swept with the other two, who arrived on their due dates on their own.
