The hats we own end up keeping her ponytail warm, not her head.

I gather I need a hat with straps that one can tie under her chin. Or a tube hat. She goes to a daycare so, ideally, she should be able to put the hat on herself.

I really like this Hanna hat but I am not sure size M would fit her. http://www.hannaandersson.com/style.asp?from=SC&pcid=47&styleid=16163&simg=16163_67D She is 3.5 but has a big head and big hair (she wears size 6 clothes and is off the charts for height). Can anyone comment on the sizing?

If not Hanna, what are my other options?

Many TIAs!

DD1 has one of the older Hanna hats like the one you linked, she is 2 months younger than your DD but she is huge (99th percentile for height, 87th for head, not curly hair but lots of hair and lots of headbands with big bows). She has the size small, she has been wearing it since she was 18 months old and she has room to wear it for at least another year. Also it stretches a lot, I have to wash it every few weeks to shrink it back down to size. I just bought DD2 the hat you linked in a size XS.

My kids tend to have big heads and also my girls wear high curly ponytails or buns. We got the animal head hats from TCP last year and they work really well. I like the style (not sure what it is called) with the two braids/ties/ribbons hanging on the side because it seems to keep it on without a tie underneath. Also we have plenty of room inside for hair because the animal face design makes for a longer hat from top down. This is the kind (http://www.childrensplace.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/TCPSearch?storeId=10001&langId=-1&catalogId=10001&N=0&Ne=&Nao=0&sale=0&url=SearchView&Ntt=hat) I am talking about, and we just sized up.

Same here! DD is small for 4 yo but has plenty of curls and usually wears a high ponytail or two and those TCP animal hats in a size bigger are sufficient enough (we got size 4-7) but you can even go bigger than that.

Thank you everyone for your responses! I'll try the Hanna hat and the TCP one and report back.

These are fun for ponytail wearers (I have two and they are warm): http://ponycaps.com
