View Full Version : What are hands-down the warmest, most insulated boots around?

What do you think are the warmest, bar none, boots that can be found for winter? I need a new pair, and I need WARMTH. As in, a pair of boots that are way too hot for you just might work for me. I get cold easily, have Reynaud's, and today my toes went completely and utterly numb while at an early morning soccer game, in spite of the two pairs of Smartwool socks and Merrell shearling-lined suede boots I was wearing. (Meanwhile just about everyone else was wearing regular sneakers, argh!)

So . . . what are the warmest boots out there? I don't care if they are winter hiking boots, if they are ugly, I just need the warmest I can find and that will be comfortable for long walks with the dog. I know there is lots of love here for Sorel, would most say they are warmer than other brands?

I have Uggs (think they are the Brooks style) that are furry all the way to the knee. Love them for single digit temps. Keen used to have knee high fur lined boots too (bern), but the new Bern style is not lined with fur. Were the boots you were wearing fitted? You might need something looser so you could wiggle your toes better. Knee high boots are also way warmer as well.

Did your feet have extra room with the 2 pairs of socks? That may have been counterproductive actually. You need a bit of airspace in there.

I'd look into Sorels and Kamiks.

ETA: I'd also explore these:

I really like the Kamiks that I bought when it first snowed here two weeks ago! Toasty feet so far. I haven't tried Uggs yet - they're suede, right? I'm not sure that they'd keep the cold winter wind out, or does the shearling do that?

Sorels. DH made me buy a pair for when we visit ILs in Michigan and Colorado during winters. I'm always cold, thanks thyroid condition, and find SoCal winters cold..but Sorels and smart wool socks and my feet are warm and I'm warm.

I have a pair of Bare Trap Ellery boots from DSW. They have them again this year. They work for me.

I have a pair of Keen boots called something like "Betty Boots" or something similar (??). The label on the inside says good to -25F and I can vouch that they are, indeed, warm to temps that low. The insulation is not super puffy or furry, which I like. Great grips on the sole, too.

I love Sorels. Agree with PP, make sure they are not too snug and try with a good pair of socks.

I love my Sorel's! I think the boot is the Snow Angel model. I've worn them to Ottawa's Winterlude, outside all day in frigid temps. My upper body was cold in my North Face but my feet were crazy comfy and warm! Bought on either STP or Zappos.

I love my Sorels for cold days around here, but for truly cold days (less than -30) or for extended time outside, I have these:

They are warm to a whopping -100C or -148F!!

I have super cold feet. My toes go numb easily. I got Bogs last year and I love them.

If you want super warm, I'd consider something like the Sorel Snowlion (http://www.sorel.com/womens-snowlion-boot-NL1082.html). They're significantly warmer than the "cute" Sorel's like the Joan of Arctic or Tofino, or even the original Caribou (both of which I have). If you have larger feet you might look at the men's Glacier. (http://www.sorel.com/mens-glacier-boot-NM1042.html) That's the sort of thing my DH used to wear when he was a geologist in Canada's north. Kamik (http://www.kamik.com/), which is based here in QC, also has a lot of warm options. I'm not sure what their availability is in the US but I think they have them at Nordie's and Zappos.
