10 year old DD needs a winter coat to walk 20-30 mins to and from school in our NE winter. She has the HA jacket but it reaches her hip this year and I think its not warm or long enough for the winter. We were looking for something more mid-thigh or knee that would keep her warm on the long walks home. Any suggestions or any ones that you particularly love? Not too heavy would be nice.

I love Lands' End down for myself.

They have a couple options for girls in a longer length.

DD1 has this one and loves it. It comes to knees and is toasty warm.

Dang, they don't have this in her size!

Would adding a pair of snow pants be an option? DD1's winter coat is only parka-length, but she adds snow pants when she wants to be warmer when she's outside! It look like the snow is here to stay here, already.

If only I could get her to wear snowpants!! Its struggle enough keeping the jacket on! It was freezing here today and DD had her short jacket unzipped and hanging with only a shirt and pants underneath.

DD has one from Old Navy and it seems to keep her toasty warm:
