I'd love to get a horse that DD's AG doll can "ride" (ok really just sit on and stay there unassisted). The AG horses are adorable, but $75, ugh. I read a couple old threads on here about alternatives, like the Target horses, but it sounds like the quality was too poor to even justify the lower prices (falling over and scratching easily).

I did some googling and found this madame alexander doll and horse (http://costcocouple.com/madame-alexander-girlz-riding-academy/). But I'm nervous it doesn't show the dolls actually sitting on the horse. Plus it's $50 for both the horse and doll, so not sure how good of quality the horse is, and we don't need the doll.

I also saw this horse (http://www.potterybarnkids.com/products/plush-doll-horse/) at PBKids. But I tried sitting a doll on it and it doesn't really work. Plus the faux leather saddle leaves all this dark staining on the fur, which seems crazy for $55.

Any other ideas? Or should I just bite the bullet and get an AG horse?

I saw this doll and horse set made by Madame Alexander at Costco. I know you don't need the doll, but the price seems pretty good.

Last year before Xmas Costco sold a nice horse (just the horse) sized for an 18" doll. It wwasn't Madame Alexander brand and unfortunately I cannot recall the name. Perhaps Costco may get more in this toy season.

Thanks MMMommy! I found your post (http://windsorpeak.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?447522-American-Girl-Horse-knock-offs&p=3662469#post3662469)from last year about Costco selling a Paradise Horse. Fingers crossed they get it in again this year!

I also couldn't stomach $75 for the AG horse. I got DD2 this horse from Target for $35:

http://www.target.com/p/our-generation-hair-play-20-horse/-/A-14177488#prodSlot=medium_1_44&term=horse

and it has been perfect. Not quite as nice, but for the rough play and level of play it has seen, it was exactly right. Plus the hair/mane stuff was a hit.

I've heard good things about the Target horse.

Thanks for the recommendation! That horse looks almost like a carousel horse, which DD would just love. Is it relatively easy to balance an AG doll on it?

She will stay on if propped up enough. It actually comes with a saddle contraption that seatbelts the doll to the horse. It is kind of fiddly but it does work.

Thanks! Next step - take DD to Target to see what she thinks :)

Btw, AG is reputed to have an amazing cyber Monday sale (50% off selected items, never dolls but accessories, pets, clothing). So you might want to keep an eye on that as well.
