That's horrible.
Thanks for posting.

I can't think of a way that the cords would be accessible to an infant. It goes under the mattress. Unless the mattress is not snug in the crib?

Wow, that's terrible. I love our AngelCare monitor. I also don't understand how a baby could get access to the cord.

I'm guessing they didn't put it under the mattress and just under the sheet instead. More of a user error than the fault of the product.

And wouldn't the parents hear something going on over the monitor?

I am guessing this too, or maybe if they didn't have a snug mattress in the crib and the baby was able to find the cord and pull it up...I am guessing the baby unplugged the sensor pad from the monitor so it wouldn't have sounded because you have the option to use the monitor as sound only without the pad plugged in.

We have the sensor pad in the middle of DS2's crib, underneath the mattress. The cord goes straight through the bottom of the crib, in the middle, so there is no way he could reach it. I have excess cord pulled tight and wrapped around the bottom of the leg of the crib so there is no way any of the cord is in any way accessible to him.

I actually don't use the sensor pad anymore now that he is over a year though. Plus he hardly ever sleeps in his crib anyway.

Yikes! We are on our second angelcare monitor. We just started using our new video one recently. Anyone know how to get the kit to fix them? The angelcare website is down.

But if the sensor pad is unplugged, wouldn't that set off the alarm? At least on mine (with the temperature display), you have to choose the sensor pad option on the baby monitor for it to work together. We're using the AngelCare monitor right now, without the sensor pad, but that's because I have the sensor pad option un-selected. Or maybe if the sensor pad cord wasn't unplugged, maybe there was just that much excess cord (or a loose fitting mattress). That's a scary thought.

If you click on the CPSC website linked to in the news article, they have more information about how to contact them there: http://www.cpsc.gov/en/Recalls/2014/Angelcare-Recalls-to-Repair-Movement-and-Sound-Baby-Monitors-After-Two-Deaths/

ETA: The link to AngelCare is written correctly in the CPSC post, however the hyperlink is incorrect. Here's the correct AngelCareBaby link (which is temporarily down as a PP said): http://angelcarebaby.com/

I also thought you specifically had to deselect the sensor pad option or it would sound the alarm. We have the Deluxe....maybe it's different on the basic model?
