i think i'm going to cave, and get one for dd. she will be 7 in Jan. so my question...is it worth it to get "the original"? or is the ebay knock off just as good? and if so, where to buy?

thanks!

I posted a message about finding a knock off at the 99cents store. It was $2.99 for the set. I know someone mentioned it's not as good as the original.

i was just reading that thread...have you tried the loom from the 99cents store? any concerns with it? i'm thinking about the 19.99 knock off on ebay. but it also includes 4800 bands and free ship, so seems like a good deal.

I got the 'real thing' at Michael's with a coupon - lately, Michael's has been having periodic weeks of a 50% off coupon. This week, I believe that there is a 40% off.

My Michael's won't allow a coupon on the Rainbow loom, but I was able to get one at Hallmark with a coupon and a reward. I got the loom and 3 extra bags of bands for $18 (a dollar more than the loom itself)

I bought the real thing from their website. They have good prices on rubber bands with the best selection and shipping is reasonable and fast. :)

Don't get the knock off. I got one and had to return it. It is not the same as the original in quality or dimensions.

Oh and I ended up getting th real rainbow loom and I think that its worth it. We don't have a Michaels or retail store that carries it. So I ordered it off the website directly.

The problem with the knockoff looms is that the spacing on the pegs is not the same as on the original. So it can be frustrating for the kids to want to be able to do one of the designs they see on YouTube and not be able to because the pegs don't line up the same way. If you're good at visualizing, many designs can be adapted, but not all.

I would recommend getting the original. My daughter and her friends will spend hours making items on the rainbow loom. It was definitely worth the $$ and considering most the items my kids have wanted lately this was rather inexpensive.

Buy the original. The story of the dad who invented the Rainbow Loom because of his two daughters is an inspiring one. (like - how come I can't come up with something like this!)

I am new to the Rainbow Loom arena - but think DD would like one. How much do the originals sell for? I saw what I believe is an original at a local gift boutique for 14.99. Is this a good deal? It was in a bluish box with rainbow colored lettering saying "Rainbow Loom".

Moolala has a deal on the real one. I won't post a link because I'm not sure how to post it and not have it be my referral link and I don't think referrals are allowed but just go to moolala.com and look for the deal.

That sounds like the real one. And that's a decent deal. I paid $16 something I believe.

Here is a website about how to detect counterfeits that also has pictures of the box:

FWIW Aaron Bros. had a ton in stock and told me they would have a BF deal on them. He didn't specify what the deal would be. Stores open at 7 a.m. Friday.

I have a real Rainbow Loom in my closet waiting to be given as a Chanukah present tomorrow.

I did not buy any extra bands. Should I? How many? Where? Thanks!

Yes, buy extra bands. Like a million of them! Lol. I think we've gone thru about 5000 bands since October.

I bought extra packages in the rainbow colors plus black, pink, teal and glow-white.

Dd1 has had the loom for about two weeks. She still has plenty of bands.. for now. We'll see after tonight and playing with cousins.

The bands can easily be bought at Michaels or Leaning Express, if you have them near you.

We still have 3 or 4 of the original rainbow packages, but I find the single color packs to be about 10,000 times more convenient. :) Around me, AC Moore has the best prices on bands.

I, too, just ordered from the Rainbow Loom website ($14.99 for the kit). Didn't get charged tax and it was free shipping b/c I spent over $60 (bought them as gifts). Definitely worth the hassle of not having to drive to a store! Thanks to the person who suggested ordering directly from the website!

$16.99 at Michaels this week. They had a huge supply when I went in yesterday for other items. Signs up all over the place that they will not accept the 50% off coupon on Rainbow Loom or the band refills.
