My DNiece2 is like that!

In the past, I've gotten her AG craft kits. For her birthday last year (she had just turned 8,) I got this kit:

I got it because it reminded me of my Grandma teaching me to make fabric flowers like this kit makes when I was about 8 years old.

I have also given "knitting nellies" to girls that age, but I added a bonus instruction booklet that my brothers and I scanned & printed from MY American Girl days - one of Molly's crafts was a pompom hat made with a "snake" from the knitting nellie. This is what I'm talking about:

Does she like kits or would she prefer nice supplies? A 10 year old can use real stuff. I find that kits often have inferior supplies in them.

Also a gift certificate for classes could be good too.

My oldest loves duct tape. There's a great book on amazon called Tape It & Make It that is under $12. With Michaels coupons, you could get 3-4 rolls of fun tape to go with it.

My dd is 11. She has the following books which she loves. She's also asking for new colored pencils, her own sharpie markers in different colors and a sketch pad for Christmas. Also going to buy her the interior design sketchbook.

Both my 10 year old DD (who draws a lot but not really artsy) and my 10 year old niece who is quite talented are getting art supplies from Michaels. My DD has a bunch already because she has taken classes at the library which she loves and my niece wants similar "real" stuff, charcoal, pencils, pastels, book on drawings, sketch pads, etc. My DDs both love the real sketch pads at Michaels.

Knit a scarf may be another thing - again agree maybe not a kids kit.

If she loves the loom you can get cool bands and bead sets for it...my DD got tie dye bands and metallics and was so happy!!! She was also thrilled to get another loom from a relative because she puts them together to make more complicated bracelets.

In addition to the above - she's likely old enough to use a glue gun. If so, get a cute one from Michael's (about $5), some extra glue sticks, and some stuff to glue with it or a gift card so that she can pick it out herself (likely even better at that age).
