View Full Version : Long shot: book about girls who are mechanics?

DD1 has announced that she wants to be a mechanic and fix cars when she grows up. Does anyone have any suggestions of books that we could get her that either have female mechanics in them, or might have very simple details about how cars work?

She's 3.5, and is very into pink things and princesses, so a lot of the books about cars/mechanics that are aimed at boys would probably seem "ugly" to her (her words for things that do not include enough pink).

I know this is a bit out there, but thought if anyone would know it would be y'all!

DK Books might have something. They have "Things That Go" and other books like that.

Not a clue, but the Milo movies have a female mechanic. Um, the movies I think Michael J Fox voices Milo. Can't pull the titles out of the ether right now.

I love this site. Not sure if it's close enough, but it's about a girl tractor...

I just saw a book at B&N the other day, Rosie Revere http://www.amazon.com/Rosie-Revere-Engineer-Andrea-Beaty-ebook/dp/B00E3AQS5E/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1386284446&sr=8-1&keywords=rosie+revere which might be something your DD would enjoy.

I was going to suggest A Mighty Girl. They have awesome lists of book, toy, etc. suggestions. (If you're on Facebook, "like" them - they always have really interesting updates.)

Thanks everyone! A Might Girl looks fabulous; I will definitely check it out.

For some strange reason the Rosie Revere book isn't loading for me, but I'll check back later (something's obviously buggy right now).

I'll check out the Milo movies too!

I don't know if she'd like the Katy the snow plow book . . . I know this is so lame, but looking through the pages it's got a lot of primary colors, and she's crazy about pink and purple and sparkles. She is the exact audience for Lego Friends and all the pink "girl" versions of building/fixing toys. She loves lots of stereotypical "boy" stuff (spends hours building things with blocks & Legos) but only if it can be done while looking preschool-fabulous (e.g. lots of sparkles, pink, and purple).

I was going to come and recommend this book. I saw it the other day too and just loved it. The other vaguely related book I saw that I really liked was 11 Experiments That Failed (http://www.amightygirl.com/11-experiments-that-failed).

I love this thread.

I now feel completely justified about all of the pink Green Toys dump trucks and toolboxes I have given over the years, explaining to puzzled people that girls like trucks too!!
