This is for my nephew, he really doesn't need anything - and I loved this as a child...but is it too lame for this generation?

I'm not finding anything "Simon Says" but if you're talking about Simon: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Simon_%28game%29 ... my 3-year-old thinks it's the bee's knees.

What else might your nephew be into? My eldest's about that age and he adores LEGO, so we're giving him a LEGO giftcard.

Yes, if it is this Simon game you're talking about, my 8yo DS had fun playing with it in Target (along with DH), and I probably would have gotten it for him if I didn't already have too much.

The classic game Simon is very fun. I remember enjoying it as an older child.

i liked simon, but loved merlin. remember that one? shaped sorta like a red old big cell phone? loved. it.
