View Full Version : PBTeen bean bags - durable? Also, do you get what you pay for with bean bags?

Santa is going to bring bean bags to my 2 kids for Christmas but Santa can't decide what to get. I don't want to spend a ton of money but I know they'll probably stay in our living room (as opposed to the playroom or bedrooms, which would be nice but unrealistic) so I'd like for them to a) look a little nice [not vinyl or too crazy colors] and b) still be durable enough to last.

The PB teen ones that are the poly fur look super comfy but I'm wondering if they'll hold up to a boisterous 4yo little boy. I don't want to spend $350 and they rip up.

I've also found ones in the $90 range and wondered if there is such a difference in quality or if the markups are just huge. I'm in a rural area so can't touch and feel IRL much - it's very hard to research online and know when it's a time to splurge and when it's okay to buy cheaper.

Thoughts?

WE bought our then 5 year old a bean bag at Target for -- In the $20s I believe. Last year. It's holding up great so far!

I did get a chance to look at Target but they only had one color in stock so my DD would have to have a different one (and I don't want rivalry over them.) They did seem fine, however, which is why I wondered about price (they are around $35 now)

I just bought 2 bean bags from Lands End. They are arriving today. I agree it's frustrating that the choice seems to be total crap or incredibly expensive! I looked at PBTeen, but the colors I wanted were $$ or not in stock and then there is extra $10 shipping per bag. LE had what I wanted in stock with no shipping.

Also, I wanted a large bag, not a small one. The small ones are not really that great for kids older than 8 and I didn't want it to be "disposable".

ETA: My Target seems to only ever have 1 or 2 in stock and they seem really small to me.

Agree that the choices are either cheap and awful or very expensive... I was looking at the fur one on PBTeen but couldn't get over the cost and lack of reviews... and worried that the fur would hold on to dog hair...

I ended up getting microfiber Jaxx Saxx Jr because they are filled with furniture foam rather than styrofoam pellets and American-made... it should arrive soon!

I was also looking at Cozy Sacks and Cordaroys (converts to queen size bed mattress but too big for DD's room).

Lands End in Sears had their bean bags covers and inserts for 50% off last week; not sure if that's still valid but since they were OOS on the inserts, the clerk called the order in so i'd get the 50% off and Free Shipping! The box is HUGE for it - arrived yesterday. The Lands End ones are canvas, denim etc. It's held up VERY well and we've had it at least 8 years.

My dd has had a Target one in her room for several years (it is pink). I have been thinking about the PB Teen loungers as a replacement for the Anywhere chairs, does anyone have experience with them? They appear to be in the same price range as the PB Teen bean bags.

It's annoying that they don't have reviews on their site. For me, it's too big of an investment not to get some feedback on everyday living with their stuff.

I've considered that Jaxx one....may go back to it, as it's the same price as the PB teen ones. I'll look at Land's End too.

Ive just ordered the PBTeen zebra stripe fur cover when they had free shipping. We have an old JCPenny beanbag that looks really old and gross and Im going to put it inside the cover. So cant comment on quality til it arrives!

We have Cordaroy's which sounds similar to Jaxx. I feel like they will last forever. DH even considered getting one for our bedroom, it's so nice!

Just wanted to see why you went with Jaxx over Cozy Sacks since the reviews for CS are good and they're $60 cheaper each? I'm even thinking about the 2" one, which would be about $90 cheaper. Would love to hear your thoughts.

Only because Jaxx had hot pink and Cozy Sacks did not. ;) Important to my tween girl...

We got DS a Cozy Sacks. I haven't opened it yet, so can't comment on quality. I can open it tomorrow night (should be studying for my last final now).

I purchased one today at PB kids for my 8 yr old. It was $100 total. Tomorrow they are an extra $20 off, she told me all I had to do was call and they would do a price adjustment.

I purchased the covers and PBTeen and then filled them myself with tons and tons of torn up clothing. The PBTeen covers are awesome. And the bags are huge.

I really wanted the teen one but they can't deliver until middle of January. My worry is the PBK one is going to be too small.
