I'm thinking of increasing my umbrella policy coverage for both and was wondering what most people here have to make sure I'm not overdoing it. TIA.

I think ours is $1 million but I'm not 100% sure. It might be $1.5...

It would depend on your area and assets. Our agent said $1M was sufficient, and it was what our financial advisor personally carries.

Our umbrella policy is for $1 million above our standard policy coverage amounts so the total coverage is more like 1.5 million.

Sorry for the hijack; is an umbrella policy standard these days? Where is yours from (same agent you buy homeowners' insurance from)?

Recommended coverage is $1 million more than your total assets.
