Looking for DS1. Any thoughts on which set to start with? TIA

I think the SC-300 is a good set to start with. I worried the SC-100 would be too small and I'd likely end up buying the upgrade anyway. My kids have yet to run out of things to do with the SC-300 and we've had them for a couple years. My kids (5 and 8) like them and play with them in spurts, but haven't ever been obsessed with them to give you some perspective.

we started with the jr set. it has tons of plans (either 75 or 100, not sure which).

SC-100 claims to have "101" experiments. (though evidently many are minor variations on others.
We got this for our 6 year old

Ds1 got the Jr. at that age and it has been fine. He loves to play with it but its not a daily toy so he hasn't run out of experiments. Yes, some of the variations with the 100 are very minor changes but Ds was off and inventing his own ideas within the first few sessions. If your kid is the type of get overwhelmed if there are too many parts or to give up or lose interest if he isn't successful early on, then go with the 100. If he is gifted mechanically or really likes the challenge of lots of parts (or you plan to do it together most of the time), then go for a bigger set.
