We are in the market for a high chair soon and I've never heard of these before the 'thank the BBB thread.'

I like the Tripp Trapp as toddler chair (we got it when DD1 was 3 and I was expecting baby 2), but when I tried it as a high chair when DD2 was about 12 months old I found it a complete mess and since DD2 wasn't spoon fed much of anything (just yogurt really) I found that it would have only made a great high chair then had there been a tray, and the lone after market one was/is $90 (http://www.amazon.com/PlayTray-Stokke-Tripp-Trapp-Transparent/dp/B002QRVH1Q/ref=sr_1_1?s=baby-products&ie=UTF8&qid=1388728686&sr=1-1&keywords=tripp+trapp+tray). Tripp Trapp now sells their own tray (http://mbeans.com/stokke-tripp-trapp-high-chair-tray.html?childid=55765&utm_medium=cse&utm_source=google&gclid=CJrX6Kqn4bsCFQuUfgodb3gANQ), but it has to be used with the baby set (http://www.amazon.com/Tripp-Trapp-Baby-Set-Color/dp/B001D1BQQW/ref=sr_1_5?s=baby-products&ie=UTF8&qid=1388728724&sr=1-5&keywords=tripp+trapp+tray), which is an additional expense. So the price of the chair (http://www.amazon.com/Stokke-Tripp-Trapp-Highchair-Walnut/dp/B001D1505A/ref=sr_1_1?s=baby-products&ie=UTF8&qid=1388728582&sr=1-1), $250+$70+50=$370 make it a pretty expensive high chair IMHO. However you can often find them used on Craigslist for about $200-$250 with the baby set and a maybe even a cover (oops, add in the cushion (http://mbeans.com/stokke-tripp-trapp-high-chair-cushion.html?frompage=CelebrosSearch&frompagedata={%22Session%22%3A%22ccff3267-b6f6-98df-616b-ca2ed2c3dce2%22}&deptid=439&frompage=CelebrosSearch&frompagedata={%22Session%22%3A%22ccff3267-b6f6-98df-616b-ca2ed2c3dce2%22) price of $45 and the total price of the chair comes to a WHOPPING $415!). It is a great chair, but honestly I would buy one used without all of the other stuff, okay, maybe the harness strap as that was pretty helpful until about just over 2 (for my DD2, DD1 rarely used it), but unless you were to find them on sale somewhere I would just buy one for your older DS and give your new baby the old high chair. DD1 ended up using the Tripp Trapp until she was around 4/1/2 and decided it was a baby seat, but it was still a nice option to have at our table and DD2 is still using at 3/1/2.

Another option is the KeekaRoo chair (http://www.amazon.com/Keekaroo-Height-Right-Chair-Natural/dp/B0044R7I00/ref=sr_1_1?s=baby-products&ie=UTF8&qid=1388729026&sr=1-1&keywords=keekaroo) that comes with a tray, which when I tried it at a baby store didn't feel as sturdy as the Stokke or the Svan Chair (http://www.amazon.com/Svan-Signet-Complete-High-Chair/dp/B0074Q5JEU/ref=sr_1_1?s=baby-products&ie=UTF8&qid=1388728870&sr=1-1&keywords=svan+high+chair), but in reality people here seem to like it so maybe the one at the store wasn't put together properly.

A plus for the Svan chair as well is that the cushion (http://www.amazon.com/Svan-Signet-Chair-Cushion-Sage/dp/B0007Y1C9M/ref=sr_1_1?s=baby-products&ie=UTF8&qid=1388728917&sr=1-1&keywords=svan+high+chair+cushion) is the only additional needed accessory. Svan also now makes this chair (http://www.amazon.com/Svan-Baby-Booster-Bentwood-Chair/dp/B00F7E2APW/ref=sr_1_2?s=baby-products&ie=UTF8&qid=1388728966&sr=1-2&keywords=svan+high+chair+cushion) which looks to not take up as much room as the original chair.

eta: we found the Fisher Price Healthy Care Booster (http://www.amazon.com/Fisher-Price-Healthy-Deluxe-Booster-White/dp/B001GQ2RWQ/ref=sr_1_2?s=baby-products&ie=UTF8&qid=1388729445&sr=1-2&keywords=fisher+price+healthycare+booster) seat a must have for our kids and it is my go to baby gift for people having their first child and they love it too. So if you don't have one I highly recommend it. Both of our girls used it until they were about 2/1/2 when we were out or at random other times when we were at home.

Just an FYI if you are looking online and you see a Stokke Kinderzeat on sale it is the same seat, but doesn't come with the baby harness, it was the model that pre dated the current Tripp Trapp, but it would be perfect for your DS as long as he still doesn't need a harness, which at 2/1/2 he should be okay without one.

Love ours, all three kids use them. I didn't get them with the girls until they were 2 so skipped the tray. With DS I got lucky and found a great deal at wayfair for the chair and baby set. Then later I got the tray for $15 at ecomom back when their prices were still ridiculous. So my cost was totally reasonable and I love the setup. I do think we would be in kind of spot without a tray for DS. So I totally get where Annie is coming from and money is very tight for us so these are very pricey. But we also homeschool so the ergonomic aspect really appeals to me for doing school at the kitchen table. We also used the harness for a ridiculously long time with DDs (they were at least 4). It sounds crazy but we made them very loose and I really think that helped us with continuing good eating habits and manners. So yes, I am definitely a fan, although I would definitely consider the Keekaroo as well.

We have 2 and I love them. We got our first as a gift when DS was born from DH's partner who had4 year old triplets (they had 3). We started using it for Dd (3) and it made mealtime much easier. We ended up buying a second one when DS was 18 months old because he was done with the high chair (which we had from DD) and he wanted a big kid chair like DD. So I've never used it for a baby. Right now we only have the trip trapps (sold the old high chair), so I think it's best for us to buy the baby attachments and tray. DD is almost 8 and doesn't sit in hers anymore (she can fit but I think she thinks it's babyish), so I have one that is not in use. DS2 is 4.5 months old, so I should start looking around for the baby set.

We have one for each child and they still use them everyday. I don't get them until they are a yr old. My brother has the newer version with the tray, but I still think that it's hard to use when they aren't sitting up that well on their own. Anyway, we love them and just keep adjusting them as they get older. We will probably use them as desk chairs when they outgrow the need to use the footboard.

We bought one as it was recommended by our feeding therapist.
We really didn't love ours as much as I had hoped. The main issue for us was that once DD3 turned 1, she could get out of the harness in 2 seconds flat. And since we didn't have the tray, there was not a second barrier to prevent her from standing up. I would go into the kitchen to get something, and by the time I walked back in, she would be standing up. I think if we had bought the tray, it may have worked better but we had already spent a bunch on the chair and the baby set, so I didn't want to spend another $90 on the tray.

We went to look at the keekaroo, but ultimately went with the Svan. So far, we have been happy with that. Although, it's seems to be pretty small compared to the stokke. We only switched about 2 months ago, so my use is a bit limited.

Love The Tripp Trapps! I got two for great prices on CL. DD1 was 4, and has used it everyday since we got it. DD2, we have a Boon Flair also from CL and we used that for the first 15 months. Now she uses the Tripp Trapp. The cushions are completely useless IMHO, never used the tray or baby set. We also have a Svan and I don't like it as much ( I got it for $15 on a FB page.) We need three chairs because we use two at table and one at the desk. The girls go for the Tripp Trapp before the Svan.

We are stokke chair collectors, lol. We had a nice Peg Perego high chair for #1, but when she was 18+mos and we had another body at the table, we got our first on CL. Stokke is the only real markings people see, so search on that term. We've gotten others at yard sales, consignments sales, etc. from $30-$75 maybe. We use them at the kitchen table and have some in the dining room. we even have one now at the kids' drawing table because as a teacher, I learned the importance of having supported feet when drawing or writing. Giving kids stable footing allows them to be more balanced when applying hand pressure, so the footrest when learning to write is quite valuable. In my K class, we used blocks under little feet. Right-sized (or grow with you) chairs are much easier.

we have two and really like them now. but like some others, i didn't really like it as much for when kid was an infant...i didn't buy the tray (too expensive..it's like $80 or something ridiculous). i did buy one baby seat for DD, but with that i couldn't get it to fit under our table so it was sort of useless until my DD could sit with out it.

now though i REALLy like them. kids are 2.75 and almost 4 and then get used everyday. they are easy to clean. no need for boosters or sitting on phone books. they can climb in on their own. love it. plus, i like how they sort of disappear when you put them at the table..not an eyesore or anything. and i love how they are adjustable.

We had one for ds (kinderzeat actually because that was the predecessor). He was already eating solids when we adopted him, but we started out with a different high chair. We switched with him when he wanted in and out of the chair every five seconds. He could climb in and out of the kinderzeat on his own, which saved my sanity.

Then we got a Tripp Trapp for dd. Dd started in hers at six months and we had no trouble using it right away. I had the baby rail for her, but never had the tray. We have a small house and you can see the dining room from the living room and I love that there is no giant plastic thing sitting out, not even a tray. The chair just looks like a chair at first glance. Plus I did baby led weaning and it fit right in with the idea that the baby joins the family at the table for the meal.

Dd did reject hers once she was about 3 so I need to go ahead and sell it on CL. They have great resale value.

We used a single chair for both our kids.

Was absolutely worth every penny.

We are older parents and had already been investing in our forever furniture when DD decided to finally show up. For some reason regular high chairs was one baby item I just couldn't bear (the mini-van of baby gear to me). We got a cherry trip trapp and baby set, and used it for both kids until about 3 for DD (when DS was then able to use it) and DS then grew out of it about 1.5 ys (BIG BOY). Neither want to use it now, so I need to craigslist it. Would not recommend getting the padding set until you use the seat and see if you really want them. We never had them, and seem like just one more thing to clean.

Seat was so easy to keep clean (all smooth lines). Adjustable. Fit with our "big people" decor perfectly. Never needed any other booster or highchair. My MIL has had a variety of highchairs-over time has spent WAY WAY more than we did on our single Tripp Trapp. She cleans them all the time, but they just give me the germy willies!

If you want one, follow threads here on BBB as deals do pop up sometimes.

This and the BOB stroller were some of the few expensive baby gear items I would be happy to pay fulll price for in retrospect!

We have 2 Svans and love them. Both are cherry colored and go well with our dining room furniture. Both DC have used them since they could sit up (with the baby tray) and still use them (sans tray) for every meal (DS is 5 and DD is 2.9) We have the padded cushions on both and throw the padding in the washer every now and then.

We have been using ours since DS was a baby and still love it. I liked the fact that it did not have a tray and even when he was a baby, DS always ate at the table with us. The baby set plus harness kept him contained when he was small. We took the harness off awhile ago and now use it as a regular, adjustable chair. Sometime I use it if DS has taken over my chair so it is definitely sturdy.

We got a Tripp Trapp for DS2. We had a Fisher Price Space Saver for DS1, and DS2 *hated* it from the first time we put him in it at 4 months. Plus it didn't pull up to our table, and took up way too much space with tray in our tiny dining room. So I started looking for a TT after reading so much about them on BBB. I got one on Craigslist for $50 with only the 3 point harness (no baby seat/set). DS2 did great without the baby seat from day 1. He loved being at the table with us, and none of the screaming and squirming we had with the Space Saver. I think he felt too confined in a regular high chair.

I love the TT, 2 years later it is going strong!

We have two tripp trap now. I did get the aftermarket tray to use with it when they were little. I never had the baby insert, but the straps held them in place once they could sit up (we didn't start on solids until they were sitting up). I wouldn't have liked the chairs without the tray for little ones, but I used the one tray with both kids so I got my money's worth. Our table is round so we used the tray up until about 1.5years when they could climb up and down on their own easily and weren't dropping things all the time. Now we're done with it so it's in the garage waiting to be sold eventually. I like the looks of the chairs and that they are so adjustable (seat and footrest can be moved up/down and in/out - DS2 needed more room on the bottom step in order to climb up). I also love how easy it is to just wipe down.

I have a Kinderzeat that I bought 9.5 or 10 years ago for DD1. It has held up amazingly and all of my kids have used it post high chair. Recently, RightStart had a special that you could buy a seat, baby set, tray, and cushion for $299. I bought it because DD3 and DS constantly fight over my one seat, and I only have 6 chairs in both my kitchen and my dining room. I'm sure the baby set will come in handy when I find a third seat for DD4 on CL for much less or for when DS starts using regular chairs full time b

How was she escaping? did you have the 5 pt harness? i know the originals were 3...cannot imagine even my little houidini getting out of the 5 pt if it is firmly fastened. Was she actually able to squeeze the release? if so I ask Stokke what they would recommend you do.

Another fan here.

We used the bumbo when the kids were young and just starting to hold things like a hunk of avocado (we also did baby led weaning, so no spoon feeding). Once they outgrew that/got more into solid food (whichever came first), they moved into the Tripp Trapp. 8-10 months or so? I don't remember. We never used a cushion, never even considered it. We ALWAYS used a harness until they were climbing in there and sitting still all on their own. We used the baby set for the squirmy one, since he liked to twist about and put his feet up on the table while eating, and the baby set kept him from being able to achieve that twist.

I VASTLY prefer no tray, since I hate having to clean a tray, along with the entire area things get thrown (baby led weaning is messy, some kids more than others). We just fed them right off the (clean) table until they were old enough for bowls without tossing. and wiped the table down at the end, like we did every meal for adults too. We also were big fans of the Bjorn bib with the catcher, since we basically pulled baby right up to the table, with just enough room between him and the table for the bib. So all the things klutzy baby hands dropped often landed in the bib, and he would happily treat the bib as a bowl to reach into for further eating.

And then it grew wonderfully into a toddler chair.

I phase to regular chairs pretty quickly after that, since I don't like having my entire house over run by kid stuff. But I can see the convenience of also letting the chair grow with the child more. It's just not my thing, as by that point, any convenience gain is outweighed by aesthetic loss for me. Even if they are pretty darn cute. It's just not my look.

So for us - chair, harness, bjorn bib - necessities, and worked perfectly together. Baby set - can try without if cost is a serious concern, but I liked it.

the Tripp Trapp is awesome. we have two.

I had the baby insert, but just didn't love using the TT for a small baby - we used the FP seat that attaches to a chair. Once they were sitting really well, we moved them into TTs. I can't imagine not having them.

I love ours. We have a KZ, a kettler tipp topp (kind of similar), and a Tripp Trapp. We used a reg. high chair in infancy with DS1 and DD, but got rid of it and went with a TT and baby insert for baby #3. I did not love getting him in and out (his chunky legs were not easy to get in and out of the baby insert), but I liked having him at the table and not cleaning a tray. I sold off the baby seat once he was sitting well and could use the 5 pt harness. He's coming up on 4 and still using the TT. DD and DS1 use our other seats in our office/homeschool room as desk chairs and for handwriting, etc. activities.
