View Full Version : Help me pick a dress for my brothers wedding

My brother is getting married in March. Church wedding followed by reception at a hotel. Evening. I need a dress that I can nurse in but don't want a nursing dress. DS2 will be 11m so it's not like I will have to feed him a lot, but I will need to be able to do it without undressing :) Their colors are grey and yellow. My older kids are in the wedding but I'm not (totally fine with that BtW!). I will probably be in several pics as I am my brothers only sibling and we are close. I was thinking a black wrap dress but is that "fancy" enough? Short, not long.

How about one of these from Boden--

I would be cautious about the 2nd - the jersey is usually a nice weight, but I've had issues with Boden's jersey in a mock-wrap front kind of stretching out & creating a weird silhouette.

I think your best bet is the wrap dress, OP.

I just wore this Adrianna Papell dress (http://shop.nordstrom.com/s/adrianna-papell-pleated-jersey-sheath-dress-regular-petite/3034652?origin=keywordsearch-personalizedsort&contextualcategoryid=0&fashionColor=&resultback=0&cm_sp=personalizedsort-_-searchresults-_-1_1_D) (which someone here helped me find a year or two ago!) to my brother's wedding last week, and I'm wearing it to another wedding next weekend. I had to nurse my 9 month old once during the reception, and I did sortof unzip the top part to ease down the shoulder, but I sat there without a nursing cover and easily nursed without having to totally undress. My kids were in the wedding (black and purple and silver), and I felt just the right amount of dressy for the family photos.

I'm linking to this one bc it's the type of top that I have nursed in at a wedding. It worked well. http://www.modcloth.com/shop/dresses/sea-the-sights-dress

Beautiful! I love it! (My brother just got married last April, and their colors were black, grey, and yellow too).

I think the 3 Boden dresses might be too casual for an evening wedding, but they are pretty.

I like the Adriana Papell lace dress, but I just tried a bunch of stuff from them and I needed a 16, which I have never worn consistently as a size (been a 12-14 due to a pear shape since DD2) and I didn't find their dresses all that flexible (which is why I didn't keep any of them), but I think you might do better with the all black one.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE both of the Adrienne Papell dresses that are linked. I think they would be perfect.

I think it's pretty, but it seems like it would be hard to nurse in. It has a crossover neckline, but the fabric doesn't seem especially stretchy, it doesn't seem like you could just pop a boob out.

It looks like a bit higher neckline than the one I have, and I do want to clarify that while I nursed in my dress, I did not pull the neckline over to nurse--I went to a quiet corner, pulled down the shoulder, and nursed. I forgot my nursing cover, but between DD's blankey and my hair, I wasn't very exposed. The one I linked is jersey, but the lace ones I've seen aren't as stretchy. (My mom wore an AP dress, too, which was lace overlay with a boatneckline, and it would not have been nursing friendly at all.) I didn't have to pull the whole dress down, but it was a bit more of a production than just pulling up my t-shirt at home.:)

I think all of the dresses in this thread look pretty and appropriate for a family wedding! The one you linked makes me think of Princess Kate, which is a plus in my book! ;)
