View Full Version : Fashionable medium weight jacket?

I have no idea what I am even looking for. But I feel like I don't have a medium weight jacket I love. I have good options for lightweight jackets--jeans jacket, grey corduroy jeans jacket, sweaters, blazers--and recently bought a down coat that I really like. But I often need something in between and while I have jackets in between I don't really like any of them. They are all either frumpy on me or impractical (no pockets).

I am a SAHM and wear jeans and a sweater or tshirt most days, but occasionally wear a casual dress with leggings or skirt with tights.

Anyone run across a fashionable and practical medium weight jacket?

Thanks,
Catherine

Look at Athleta and Title Nine. I've seen cute options there. On my phone so no links to show now. I'm thinking a short trench style.

This is exactly what I'm looking for too, only I also want it to be water resistant. I tried the quilted insulator parka from lands end in two different sizes and it was awful. I'm still looking.

I have this one and love it. Removable hood, water resistant, fleecy lining. Good for fall/spring around here (MA).

I got this for the holidays and am quite happy with it. It is light weight but medium weight in warmth. I like my medium weight jacket to work in the rainy season so hood & waterproof were requirements!

The model pic is terrible, the fit is much trimmer IRL.

I have recommended this jacket to everyone, both IRL and here. The length and the cut make it functional, warm enough and polished. It looks great with both jeans and dresses/leggings.

Boden's fleece lined Rainy Day Mac is another great option.

So many great links. Thank you! I really really like shorter better sweater on title 9. That blue looks super pretty and wearable.

I just moved from SF and year round I wore a Barbour quilted jacket (unlined). They have a woman's version that is either belted or nipped at the waist. I actually own a few in different colors. Love them, washable, look great for daily wear or going out to dinner. Really can't say enough good things about their coats. I just looked at Nordstrom online and they don't have the normal unlined version. I used to get mine at The Hound on Sutter (I know you aren't in the city anymore but they usually have their sale in January and the Barbours are a great deal - might be worth the trip!).

I got this for our Disney trip: http://www.stagestores.com/store/product/Below+Zero+Radiance+Anorak+Solid+Color+Reversible+ Jacket+–+Misses/129933/

Was perfect on a rainy, 50deg day. I stayed warm and dry. Mine is a trendy apple/grass green color. The waist has a cinch cord and the pockets are very deep and snap closed. It is reversible but I've only worn it green side out. I'm petite and had to cuff the sleeves (which was easy to do and they stayed in place) and it falls below my rear in the back.

This is the coat I fell in love with a couple of months ago. It finally went on clearance in the color I wanted, so I just gave in and got it today.

My only complaint is how short the belt is, but other than that I love it. And I'm tired of looking.

Cute coat, zukeypur! Did you get the vintage white?
That white Banana trench is cute and looks like BRSALE50 will give you 50% off through tomorrow (the 11th), for anyone looking. Wish it came in petites (the navy does)- I bought a tan trench there last fall (still in stores, I think- it has a red lining) that I love, but I'm short and need a petite.

The code is only for sale items so it won't work on the trench.

This doesn't say that it's waterproof. Do you know if it is or is it just water resistant? Also, how is the sizing? I'm wondering if that inner fur may even be a little too warm for spring, but I like it otherwise.

eta: I'm on the hunt for a jacket too. I like this northface one (http://www.thenorthface.com/catalog/sc-gear/womens-jackets-vests/women-39-s-chromium-thermal-jacket_2.html?variationId=E0Q&variationName=GREYSTONE%20BLUE%20HEATHER), but it's more than I want to spend. I'd like to have a hood too, but it isn't that crucial since we don't get THAT much rain.

Oops, sorry about that! I know that they have Wednesday 40% off regular-priced items codes (you can get the coupons in store), that would probably work, but of course it's not 50%.

I'm almost positive it had a waterproof tag on it. I wore it for 12 hrs in a light rain at Disney and stayed dry. It's like raincoat material on the one side and fleece on the inside. I wore it today over a light cardi and it was 50 here today and I was comfortable. As for fit, I'm petite in height and pear shaped. I usually wear a small in tops. I went with a medium in this jacket because I didn't want it to be tight around my hips and butt and I wanted to be able to wear it over a sweatshirt if we ended up with a really cold day in Disney. The waist has a cinch cord so that gives it a good shape. I actually got two compliments on the coat today from sales people at two different high end stores. The green color is really attractive.

I bought this Calvin Klein jacket in steel and olive and like them a lot. On sale too. It looks better on the model in the pic if you select any color other than red. The fit looks less form fitting in the red color picture.

Zara has a sale right now. Tons of fashionable, well made jackets under $100. I'd suggest a pea coat style or army parks style.

I still really like the Patagoina one at Title Nine. But I also like this quilted jacket from Eddie Bauer and the price is better. It is very similar to a jacket I bought at h&m about twelve years ago and wore to death. Still fashionable?

I wanted to love this Patagonia one because it seems so stylish for a simple fleece. The way the collar stands up it looked odd on me--both DH and my mom agreed. I ended up just getting a regular better sweater full zip and love it!

Just want to update that my grey Eddie Bauer jacket arrived yesterday and it is a keeper. The grey is a bit different--a bit of a bronze cast to it I think. My usual size fits just fine. It has a way to cinch in the waist across the back, which is good because otherwise it would be too boxy. It has two flap front pockets, with snaps, that are big enough to hold a cellphone and keys.

thanks everyone!
