I need some floating shelves for DD1s room and am looking for feedback on the LACK floating shelves from IKEA. They're so cheap I'm kind of afraid they're a you get what you pay for type of thing--are they? TIA!

Don't get them unless they've changed the installation methods substantially in the last 4 years.

My FIL, who is VERY handy and DH, who has his moments, couldn't get the ones we bought set up properly. We returned them and bought different shelving from Home Depot.

DH claims that there are a lot of negative reviews to be found online, but I don't know where I'd send you to start looking.

I did find some reviews, but not a lot so I figured I'd ask here. My DH is not a fan of Ikea in general, so I don't want to get them if they're not decent quality. Otherwise it'll just be another drop in his anti-Ikea bucket!

My husband just put one up and found it very frustrating. Too bad I have a second one waiting for him

I've put four up in my house on my own and had no problems.

One in the playroom.

And three in DS1's room to display his Legos.

We have the RIBBA picture ledge (has the lip, wide enough to put small toys and to prop up books.) They look fantastic and were easy to install but...

for these shelves the challenge was to choose the correct drywall anchors and measure VERY CAREFULLY!!! and use the right size drill bit!!! DH used a too-large drill bit for one of the holes and the wall anchor subsequently came loose. It'll be a pain to fix now because we'd have to patch the wall with something that will support drilling another hole in that exact same spot. And if you don't measure correctly, and use a good leveler/laser guide, then you'd end up with crooked shelves that will not be so easy to fix. You basically need all your hardware to go in perfectly on the first shot.

My dad put them up and DS1's have been great. DS2 hung from his in his room and them and took them down. We use them for legos in DS1's room and they've been up for 2+ years with no issue.
